Coconut oil vs. coconut butter/cream

Coconut oil really upsets my stomach. Do you think the cream or butter would as well? I wonder because I hear people say the cream is less oily, and I think it's the oil that bothers me. Do you think I could drink coconut milk? I'm asking all these wuestions because I bought Dana Carpender's Fat Fast book - the recipes look wonderful but some call for coconut oil and I'm trying to know if I can make substitutions. (I'm not a creative cook.) Plus I want to try some of the fat bombs out there but have the same concern. Thanks!

You could use butter instead. I like coconut cream, but the stuff I buy is a bit carby.

Oh, I would love to hear how you like her new book!! The oil and cream is not interchangeable. That is the oil is well....for lack of a better term oily and totally not like the cream at all. The oil is pure fat--the coconut cream is NOT pure fat. They are different. Butter is interchangeable with oil though. They are both pure fats. If you can do butter, I would swap those out. The coconut milk in the can is great! I don't see a reason you need to not drink it.

unsweetened coconut milk is different from the oil and shouldn't cause a problem. I love the kind that is a blend of coconut/almond. It makes great egg cream shakes.

Try coconut cream concentrate from Tropical Traditions, very creamy and yummy by itself. 70% coconut oil and the rest is finely ground coconut meat. I use it in my coffee daily. You can also make a creamy coconut drink with it.

Remember to start with small amount of coconut products!! Whats in the recipe book may start you out with to large an amount. You'll probably have to work up to larger amounts if you haven't consumed coconut oil before.
