Protein powders: whey or casein?
 
I am going to try drinking some protein shakes for breakfast to give myself alittle more variety in the mornings.

If you use protein shakes as a meal replacement, do you use whey or casein? From the research I've done, it looks like casein is probably the best option due to it's "staying power." (But some of the things I've read have me alittle confused.)

Thoughts?

I believe casien is supposed to have less (or slower) impact on your blood sugar as well.

Casien does have a slower impact on blood sugar and digests slower. Normally used as a meal replacement. Whey is digested quickly and is normally used around workout times due to its absorption rates. I like to use a mixture of both....

I found this to be true. It also stays with you much longer. As a meal replacement, I would choose casein, for post workout, I would choose whey.

There are blends out there...syntrac matrix is one that contains whey, casein,and egg ptotein

I use whey protein powder for a meal replacement for breakfast fairly often, usually with 3-4 frozen strawberries blended in. I find it very filling as it fills me up for a few hours easily. Everyone's different in that respect though.
