I don't know why you couldn't have a potato and some beans every once in a while and still be low carb.
I was wondering about this, too. I occasionally eat taters (LOVE them, especially mashed) -- I just keep the portions small and work them into my day's carb allowance.

.....we always want what we can't have! When I am counting points+, I want Buffalo wings and full fat ranch- when I am LC, I want sandwiches, chips, oatmeal........ I have done WW (online), Atkins, and HCG- for now I want to get to my goal- when I am at goal, I will be able to have some carby things, sparingly- as long as I don't hit that slippery slope where I think that I can have more than what I really should- that's how I re-gain everything that I've lost.

Both plans and way of life works- it just depends what you can stick with....
