Broth/water weight gain?
Hi all!
I've been back on 20g or less of carbs since last Monday. Dealt with the "Atkins flu" for 3-4 days before I realized why I was feeling crummy. On Saturday I drank 2 cups of broth and had a pretty salty dinner after reading the tips on combating this feeling and gained 4 pounds and am still holding on to it. Will that much salt/broth cause this to happen? How long will it generally stay? It's hard to see a gain after being back on the wagon hard-core for a week. ![]() |

Commercial broth or homemade?
Some commercial ones have high fructose corn syrup, MSG, loads of sodium and other chemicals that you could have a reaction to. |

Ah, that could be it. Yes, commercial broth from loose bouillon. My head was hurting so bad I didn't think to look at those ingredients.

ANY broth and/or salt does that to me and I make my own bone broth. LOL...my body just sees salt and bloats up four to seven pounds...then I have to eat clean, and drink my water...and do like 'shots of broth' in between to make it go away.
Some of us are just sensitive to the salt...but don't concern over it..it does go away...eventually. |

Unless you ate 3500 calories/lb x 4 = 14,000 extra calories needed to gain 4 lbs of actual fat.... I would bet that its only water weight - retained water and salt. It usually takes a 1-2 days for it to go away.

Don't sweat the water-weight. It'll go away again in a bit. (Best way to get rid of retained water is to drink.)

Home made broth - from the remains of a rotisserie chicken - is the best known supplement this LC'er knows to keep the skids greased, and the plummin' hummin.
