Please help with net carb count
I want to see if I am anywhere close to understanding how to count the net carbs in food.........example...Quaker Instant Oatmeal..Apples and Cinnamon....total carbs 33g.....dietary Fiber4....soluable fiber 1 sugars 12g....what would be the net carbs?

I wanted to keep my carbs at 50 today and think I blew it .. couldnt find the lower sugar oatmeal ,,so I ate this,, now I regret it.

Please help ,, thanks so much.

As I understand it, take total carbs and subtract fiber. So 33 - 4 = 29 net carbs

Total carbs - total dietary fiber - sugars alcohol = Net carbs. Sugars alcohol are debatable though. Many people find that they stall or slow weight loss because they do still have some impact on blood sugar. Mind you, less than sugar. To answer your question though, your oatmeal would be 29g net carbs.

tested blood sugar and its a bit high for my goal so this oatmeal is off the list of what I can eat,, I need to stay at 20g a meal.. Thanks for explaining the carb count.
I was confused because of soluable fiber and sugar.

Yeah... Total - fiber = net. Anything else (ie: sugar alcohols, etc) is fudging it.

I always deduct fiber, but only sometimes do I deduct SOME sugar alcohols. Never all of them, but, depending on which they are, I'll deduct half. IMO, most sugar alcohols are for pre-maintenance and beyond.
