Rant Time
I need a small rant. There is a person in my office that has all the gifts life has to offer, so why does she have to make negative comments on my life?
My food looks gross. Really. Did I ask? And...I'll gain my weight back. Seriously? I have been losing weight slowly since 2005 and when did I ever gain more than a dozen pounds before getting back on track and losing more? I've lost well over 100 pounds, how many people do you know that has done that? And you have advice for me, really? Some naturally thin people seem to believe that if you eat and exercise like they do, you will just be magically thin. OMG... These are two of a trail of comments that are on my nerves at the moment. I have to keep my rants to myself. Ugh!

When I get remarks like this, I say "It's so thoughtful of you to mention it." It's best if you can say it without sounding sarcastic.

Deep breath. I believe everyone's life is a balance. Just because this other person may have some good things going for them, they assuredly will have some bad things too, and if not now, then later. Already, you can see that this other person lacks social grace and that will affect their life negatively. Additionally, people resistent to the obesisty symptom, will still likely suffer the other effects of metabolic sydrome and they will not have the early warning bell that others like us get before it is too late.
What is important in life is that we take our weaknesses and try to improve them, that is what makes us better people. Just my opinion, which may or may not be worth anything. Also congrats on the 100 down!

OK, I'm snarky. I'd probably say "OMG, thank you so much. With your help I should be able to loose another 100+ lbs in 6 months or less. Where have you been!"
Or if in a bad mood I fall back on my "Bite me" is a complete sentence philosophy... ![]() |

A huge Congratulation on your weight loss, Key Tones. ![]() There was another person on another Thread who had a problem with a negative friend that was sabotaging her diet with snide remarks. One person answered with what I thought was a great answer. I don't remember the conditions this other poster wrote, but how about something like: "I'm on this style of eating due to my condition of Hyperinsulinemia, Hypertriglyceridemia, and pre-hypertension. You are Blessed to not have these conditions." Terms from p. 178 Atkins book, 1972. Doesn't look like you're particularly using Atkins Diet; if you were you could even say on Doctor's orders. ![]() Good Luck and hang in there, girl! ![]() ____________________________ Keep your eye on YOUR goal and you'll way more easily navigate around the discouraging obstacles. ___________________________ KEEP MOVING FORWARD Sharon ![]() |

OMG it is like we are twins! I to have lost over 100 pounds and kept it off I am struggling to get back to my lowest but figure I have kept most of it off and most people never do what we have.
My boss is the one with the comments about my food smelling bad and do you have to dress that way now. Only thing is she is as heavy as I was at one time. I know I will never be any skinny minny but I am good with that and just like that I am healthly and active. At a fundraiser her husband actually said to me in front of her to bad she didn't do it with you. I about died and it has been hell ever since and that was over 6 years ago. Just keep it up and prove them wrong!! I am cheering for both of us to keep it off for the rest of our lives.

When she's nasty, bdladie, just picture her husband saying that in front of her. Keep up the great loss. You're boss is so jealous, but someday she may decide to join you since you're such a fine example. The world is full of those that want to put down others in a myriad of ways including making negative comments about personal food choices (I hear the 'grease' adjective from one) and those that think they have all the answers because they lost a few lbs. or never had to lose any.
It is arrogant and rude - no excuse. Having established this, I don't give their words any more weight than I would to the whistling wind. Would never want to be them. Only feel pity for them. |

I am sorry that so many of you are having to put up with such unsupportive friends and co-workers. I will admit that many of my friends do not fully understand how I am eating such large amounts of fat and losing weight, but they can not argue with the results. I have also gotten quite a few comments about how great my skin and hair looks, too -- not at all like many people when they lose weight. Again, I tell them it is the fat. Unfortunately, the fat phobia is so engrained that many are sure I will keel over from a heart attack because of my love of bacon. |

Your co-worker sounds extremely insecure and childish. She may enjoy many of life's blessings, but maturity and good social skills are not among her blessings. She sounds jealous to me, and there's not much you can do except limit interaction with her, don't give what she says any credence, and have a mature response ready in your mind the next time she acts out. Others have suggested some possible responses; I'd consider saying something like, "This way of eating works best for my health issues and has the support of my doctor. We all have to go with what works for us as individuals."

I get the comments so much at work that I don't like to eat in front of anyone. Sad but true - at restaurants with a group everyone points and comments about whatever I'm eating. They don't know that I'm a recovering anorexic and bulimic and I'm very self-conscious about eating. People have no idea how hurtful their "joking" comments can have.

I've notice there are certain people, friends and family, that expend a whole lot of time and energy trying to talk me into eating foods that are off my menu. I've given up trying to figure out why they do it so I've gotten really good at ignoring "advice" and sabotage efforts.
Maybe someday I'll figure out why my weight loss efforts are so fascinating to some people that they just can't leave it be. For now, I just feel that I don't have to explain to anyone about anything I am eating or not eating. I don't want to expend as much time defending myself as they spend trying to sabotage. |

Well, I think you get to a point in your life when you no longer care what people think. And if you have something to say, you'll just say it. No guts, no glory, right? If it were my co-worker, I would probably just say, "shut up"...and walk off.
Maybe not to my boss though. lol |

Haters gonna hate!
The best revenge is being happy with who you are, because she obvioulsy is not happy with herself. Knowing that you wouldn't treat people that way already makes you the "bigger" person. |

Key Tones, I don't get what is up with some people, but I do my best to remind myself that everyone has their struggles, and when they're nasty to others, it's about their own unhappiness, not me. I don't always (often?) succeed, and that's when I rant. Rant away! We've all been there to some extent, and we all would want to give her a good one back. Being the better person sucks sometimes.

Just remember, she goes home to that every night. When she sees you succeeding year after year, she probably hears those words echoing in her ears. That's sad. It's no excuse for how she treats you, but maybe it's a small comfort to know it's not about you, it's about her. |
