I don't own a scale. When my I started low-carb, my husband figured he should get some "scientific" (his word) data. So every afternoon, when we meet at the gym, I get on the scale, and he puts the weight in a spreadsheet.
He always says "Science!" beforehand, and I don't always look at the scale, depending whether I'm in the mood to know. The numbers can be swingy because at that point I've had meals and water, and I'm wearing gym clothes. I don't even take my shoes off. |

we had a humorous thread about this years ago when people speculated how much they might lose if they cut both hair and fingernails the same day... LOL things like that.
the big deal of course is to weigh at the same time every day. if you sleep an extra two hours and do the ritual, you will weigh less, because your body eliminates water in the form of urine, perspiration, and respiration all the time. Last edited by ravenrose; 02-18-2013 at 11:08 AM.. |

I've often speculated whether it would be better to inhale as much as possible?
It seems like filling up with as much air as you can might reduce the effects of gravity - like a blown up balloon that floats around compared to a deflated balloon, kwim? |

Wake up, go to the bathroom, take off night clothes, weigh, record weight, take morning meds. That's it. No more weighing until the next morning.

yep, guilty on all counts !
Wake up , pee, take off pj's and weigh - move scale and weigh again - move scale and weigh again ! Then I go make coffee...... If I have one sip of coffee and haven't weighed, I wait until next day to weigh.. Think we are all a bit OCD |

Wish it weren't true, but I can't start my day without weighing.
Wake up, use the bathroom, weigh naked, and record weight in my phone. |

I always weigh right after getting up because you weigh less at that time rather then after you have walked around a bit.. Even if you don't eat a thing.. I will go to the bathroom of course and strip down to nothing.. weigh.. get off the scale.. move it around on the floor.. weigh again.. if I weigh more I move it back to where it was first and weigh again just to be sure I am getting that lowest number. LOL If I weigh later and haven't even had something to drink I will most always weigh 2 pounds heavier.

I do all of the above, including waiting to wash my hands (those water drops weigh something) until after I weigh in...BUT..if I've eaten something bad the day before, I approach the scale as if it's gonna bite me, literally!

I wake up have 1 or 2 cups of coffee, the coffee makes me go #2. Then I weigh myself, I don't get on the scale till I go. I also check it twice.

Besides many of the things said previously...I think "good thoughts" before I get on the scale. Like I'm bargaining with it like it's a living thing! LOL
"Please number, go down." "I feel better in my clothes, it must have gone down." "My back fat looks smoother, the number has to be down." "I eat so much better than my husband, please number be down!" Last edited by 4myfuture; 02-21-2013 at 07:51 AM.. |

I have 3 things that are ALWAYS on my body: My glasses (the better to see you with, my dear), my watch, and my amber necklace (for my arthritis).
A "Good" weigh? Get out of bed. Go potty. Remove EVERYTHING -- not a stitch, no watch, no amber beads, and no glasses. Oh -- and my hair is down. (No hair ties or hair jewelry.) |

I have a med that I have to take before I get out of bed, but I do it with the smallest sip of water I can manage.
Tinkle first, pjs off, then i do a little positive visualization of what i would like to see. I'll get on a second time only if I don't like the first number. |

OMG same here... I thought I was the only quirky one
![]() I get up every morning, use the bathroom, strip down to t-shirt and underwear only, and then weigh myself. I don't take off jewelry or anything like that... but the t-shirt stays on because I'm always so darn cold with my thyroid out of whack. That would be mighty uncomfortable first thing in the morning, crawling out of a nice, warm, bed and stripping completely naked in a cold, tile-floored bathroom. I guess I have to make some concessions for myself! My shirt can't weigh THAT much, can it? ![]() |

I know that some of you are joking, and some are not. And please don't take this the wrong way...but do you think that some of this in-depth weighing is self-defeating? Yes, of course you should weigh the same way everytime. But is a ring, a hair holder, or anything of the like weigh that much that you should need to take it from your body? I get that it's a ritual and different for each and every person, but, I think that maybe a normal fluctuation of weight is justified everyday due to food and water and salt.
Maybe we should love ourselves more, and weigh ourselves less. Loose fitting clothes or a tape measure might be more "I love me" friendly... Dani
