What do you eat when you're under the weather?
I've come down with a nasty case of the flu. In the past, when I was ready to start eating again, I'd have some broth, and then - if that was okay - move on to chicken soup with noodles or rice, or just the noodles.
The broth's still fine on low carb, but I'm having trouble thinking of something bland I can try next. I've had some veggies, but they're only so filling ... and even thinking about eating meat, cheese, or eggs is making my head spin. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

When I was sick I made egg drop soup with chicken broth and chunks of chicken. Add some hot chicken sauce to clear your sinuses. You could also make a roast with onions and carrots?

The oldest remedy in the world......Chicken Soup!!!!!!!
I buy a half a chicken throw it in a pot so it's covered by chicken broth. then bring it to a boil and let it simmer covered for a couple of hours. Add veggies to suit....and don't skim off the fat. |

A little higher carb, but cottage cheese....take chicken broth and add some seasonings and some heavy cream for a cream of chicken soup.....scrambled eggs......chop a head of cauliflower into pieces and then in the food processer to make rice with some cream and butter......fauxtatoes....soft boiled eggs.....one minute muffin.....
I sure hope you feel better soon!! |

Definitely egg drop soup. Start with broth, then move on to just the broth and the egg, then poach some chicken breast in the broth. Eventually, you can add a few string beans or another vegetable.

I try hard to stay on plan. However, when you are sick, you gotta do what you gotta do. Twice over the past 6 months I got a stomach virus. After suffering for a day or so, I ate a peanut butter and banana sandwich with one slice of bread. They always settle my stomach. So I say try your best to stay on plan, but if you need the noodles take them. It is also really hard to be a creative cook when you are sick. Hope you feel better soon.

I added spaghetti squash 'noodles' to my chicken broth along with shredded chicken breast from a store bought rotisserie. A sprinkle of grated parmesan and a dash of red pepper flakes really helped to sustain me and eventually perk me up.
Peanut butter and HWC mixed together makes a lovely PB pudding that is palatable when feeling icky (with fat and protein to do a body good!). |
