I know I'm going off plan when...

I thought for my own and others sakes I would admit out loud what things I always ignore when I start to carb creep and get off track! Not when I full blown cheat, but when I don't pay strict enough attention! Feel free to add your own!

I subtly ignore these signs when I am eating off plan and will do so no more!

I don't visit this forum everyday.
I stop weighing myself daily.
I rationalize one beer.
A few chips with the salsa becomes ok
I don't analyze everything I eat.
Pasta sauce (falsely) becomes sugar free
I need more than one dinner
I stop looking at myself in the mirror
I don't think about my goal everyday
I take a lot of naps
I don't get anything done after work
I spend weekends watching tv
People don't question the way I'm eating when I go out to eat
The sauces in Chinese food suddenly don't count.
The foods that are allowed during maintenance but not on induction or owl become my full meals 3 or 4x daily
I stop trying on my clothes that are too small to see if they fit yet.
I tell myself I will be strict again tomorrow.
And many more!

The good news is I maintain while doing these ( never break plan completely), but the bad is I'm not working to my goal! Are you guilty of these? Do you have your own signal you are slightly neglecting what you should be? Admit them now or be doomed to repeat!

susume 02-12-2013 07:51 PM

Yup, I rationalize everything, and red wine is so good for me.:dunno:

Luca 02-12-2013 07:52 PM

:goodpost:
I think you have covered everything!

Each and everyone of those signal that I am not in a good zone...it's interesting to see them listed like that.

I don't read the nutrition label.
"It's just fruit."

Ntombi 02-12-2013 09:36 PM

When I don't weigh daily.
When I don't track my weight.
When I start skipping meals.
When I stop keeping my fridge full of easy to grab, easy to cook, and completely Atkins-friendly food.

MissBeth 02-12-2013 09:45 PM

Wow, that is a great list. Thank you for posting it!

shelby'snana 02-12-2013 11:26 PM

When...
Alcohol won't make a difference on my weight loss
I worked out hard anyways
I'm working out hard tomorrow anyways
I have no time to shop

princessmommy 02-13-2013 04:24 AM

Lordy I could have written so many of those myself!
it's still LC so it's ok to eat it
little bites don't count
it's a special occasion (B-day etc)

Britt1975 02-13-2013 07:00 AM

My two big signals are that I stop weighing, measuring and tracking my food -and I stop coming here to post and read - because I'm ashamed and feel like I should only come here when I am on track.

:goodpost: I agree! I had some slips last week and over the weekend and was up 3.5 pounds. It is a slippery slope! I'm glad that I really sat and thought about it and started full force on Monday. I also decided enough was enough and started exercising. I have to quit making excuses. If I keep having the same bad results with the same bad behavior and expecting a different outcome - I am delusional!

cfine 02-13-2013 07:30 AM

This sounds EXACTLY like me!!

4myfuture 02-13-2013 09:02 AM

I know when I'm off plan when I think I can eat like the rest of the world too. I start to think It's just not fair!

piratejenny 02-13-2013 09:28 AM

"A little breading is okay."
As in, I'll have eggplant parmigiana when everybody else is getting pizza, pasta or lasagna.
I'm pretty sure breading is ALWAYS the start of something bad for me.
Not because I get uncontrollable cravings the minute I have some carbs, but I just start letting other things creep in...3 Ritz crackers, 1/4 of a pancake while I'm making them for DS & his friends, just a few croutons on my salad, a 2nd LC flour tortilla...

I stopped eating wheat a couple weeks ago, and *all* of the above pitfalls have been eliminated!!!

PLUS
I stop shopping and cooking for the week in advance
I stop going to the gym
I start having cocktails more frequently
I try to convince myself that I can get right back on the wagon after one cheat meal, one cheat day, one cheat weekend.....

I too can relate to a lot of these and I was just talking to a friend at work today about this. She's on a paleo diet (and has cured her chronic sinus and stomach issues) and we were both marveling at how much clearer our brains are. Fatigue that requires naps and not getting things done after work are reliable warning signals for me. Great reminder to pay attention!

trishthedish 02-13-2013 03:26 PM

I don't plan and prep my meals for the week.
I 'browse' higher carb items at the grocery store.
I delay drinking my water.
I choose loose fitting clothes.
I make an impulsive decision to eat something higher carb in place of my previously committed LC choice.
I don't write down what I have eaten in my food journal.
I go to the grocery store without a list.

All of the above are danger, danger, danger warnings.

1sweettea1 02-13-2013 03:33 PM

Great lists everyone!

The only thing I can add is browsing the recipes and making out a new grocery list to include ingredients that I have no business buying to make sweets that I have no business eating. Atkins friendly or not, I don't need to borrow trouble!

As with everything else, I just need to Keep It Simple Stupid!

Maryposa 02-13-2013 04:24 PM

I agree with others, :goodpost:

:)

Thanks for sharing... I must admit, I very much relate!

Kittee 02-15-2013 03:16 PM

I bust out the Splenda to make a low carb dessert
I start using drink mixes to flavor my water
I sample my daughters snacks because it's just one bite
I can't stop going to the pantry or fridge to look for a snack

Sometimes I feel like I am in the same stupid cycle...start out great, get bored, carb creep, cheat for a week or more. Repeat. Will I ever lose this last 25lbs!?

BigRolliePollie 02-16-2013 11:34 PM

I know I'm off track when I stop checking this sight (guilt). I am new, but somehow this sight always sets me straight and reminds me of my goals. I have been struggling to lose the last 10 pounds...I am finally close and I get complacent...then I gain a few more...kids always seem to take over in their own little way...
