At least three times a week I throw a lb of bacon in the oven to bake. It makes the house smell so good - and it's great to be able to reach in the fridge for a few slices when I'm feeling munchy!

I've been throwing a pan of bacon in the oven when I get home from riding in the morning. By the time I'm showered and dressed, it's done and I can wrap the slices in a paper towel and head out the door. I love it!!

Bacon is one thing that I cannot make ahead of time. It doesn't matter how much I make that is how much I will eat.

I know this is going to get some laughs but how do you make bacon in the oven? I mean I hate frying bacon because it's messy and I get burned but I don't know what kind of bacon you do in the oven. (I did say several times that I am culinarily (my own person word) challenged so please do not laugh TOO hard.) I was worried about nitrates or nitrites or something so I got some from my Amish market and had a friend cook it (LMAO) because I really don't do that so well. Please explain...

You can make any kind of bacon in the oven. My preference is Oscar Mayer, original or thick cut, but any kind you like will do fine.
I lay them flat in a half sheet pan (any long flat pan with a lip will do), and stick them in the oven at 350* until they're done just under crispy, which is how I like my bacon. I drain the bacon on paper towels, and pour the grease into a mug that stays in the fridge for cooking. Wash the pan immediately, or at least soak it in hot soapy water. Done. It's really the simplest way to make bacon. The only thing is that until you know how long it will take in your oven, you have to check on it every few minutes after the first fifteen or so. When it's done crispy enough for you, take it out. Everyone has their own crisp level preference, which is why I'm not giving times. |

Bacon and I are experiencing a longtime love affair!
I love the stuff! Found some excellent nitrite free organic cured bacon and it is just so smoky, so crispy and so delicious..... I usually fry mine up in a frying pan with a TB of coconut oil (the flavourless kind). I keep the fat from frying with all that nice bacon flavour to use for later when I cook meat or to pour over cooked veggies... |

I use heavy-duty foil on the sheet pan. Much easier clean-up.

But, but, when you do the bacon in the oven doesn't it pop and spatter all over the place?? I love bacon and so does DH, but I hate frying it!
Since I don't have a self cleaning oven, I've been afraid to try cooking the bacon that way. |

Lov bacon but I only cook what I will be eating. Like was said I will eat to much, it's very addicting. Also I don't like it cold out of the fridg.

Put the half-sheet of bacon in the cold oven then set temp and check after about 15 mins.
Be sure to use a sheet with higher sides. One of those cookie sheets that is real shallow will be a problem with the grease that accumulates. Google 'oven fried bacon' |

Spattering Bacon in the Oven
I saw a neat idea to keep your oven clean while cooking bacon - use a cooling rack (the finer the mesh, the better) with legs to place over top of the bacon.

I put my bacon on a jelly roll pan covered with heavy duty foil. I put the bacon in a cold oven, turn the oven on to 400 F and cook it for 20 minutes. That's the perfect doneness for me.
I also like to do it that way but undercook it slightly - store it in the fridge and then throw it in the microwave when I want a quick snack. That way it warms the bacon up and finishes cooking it rather than overcooking it. |

Costco has precooked bacon in the fridge section. It's Kirkland brand (but really Hormel). 1) Buy 2) Take few slices out at breaskfast 3) put in paper towl 4) 1 minute in the microwave
= crispy bacon! I wish they'd go nitrate free! |

We love this stuff at my house, fast bacon any time. We've gone through several packages in a few weeks! And cheaper than buying small boxes of microwave bacon at the grocery store.
