Great documentary on Netflix
 
Hi all,

I just watched a terrific documentary on Netflix called "Hungry for Change."
It's very well done and is a great compliment to the book "Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It."

The books isn't mentioned at all but the points are almost exactly the same.
I highly recommend everyone watch it.

If you don't have Netflix, you may be able to rent it on Amazon I haven't looked but its a thought.

Thanks for the tip. One of the reviews says that it speaks against sugar and grains but also pushes a vegan and juicing diet?

It does speak about sugars and grains but I didn't get the sense they were pushing any diet. Just giving their thoughts, the facts about nutrients and things like that.

I watched it last night, on your advice, and thought it was very good. I've heard most of it, but it's always nice to hear it again. I may try to add in some aloe vera as I had kind of forgotten about it being a super food. I try to eat as many of them as I can.

It was interesting.

I could have done without the obligatory Atkins bashing: "The Atkins diet is zero carbs." "I HAD to have bread." and that translates into Atkins not working.

I think the overall take-away message is good though: people are overweight, but under nourished. We are driven to over eat because our bodies are missing something that it needs. It doesn't have any mechanism for getting it except driving us to eat, hoping whatever is chosen will contain that key need.

Overall worth a watch.

I'm so glad you all found it as good as I did. I didn't think the guy was bashing Atkins though...I thought he was just admitting his addiction to carbs was so strong he couldn't continue this WOE. But that's just my take on it.

After watching the documentary I'm not watching my carb intake anymore and I'm trying not to be so concerned with getting on the scale every morning. I'm just eating naturally (not organic in case anyone is wondering) just naturally. With my emphasis being on green veggies, meat, eggs & cheese. I'm keeping track of my ketosis w/ the sticks and all is well. It takes the pressure off. I tend to get caught up in the 'rules' and then stress out about doing it 'right' instead of doing what 'right' for me. One deviation and I completely freak, this way is much better for me.

It was a good. I agree it was overall positive, and against sugar.

Also, I bought a juicer yesterday and will be adding some extra veggis to my diet (don't worry, I will still get enough fiber, and I will still stucture my carbs so that I stay in keto and/or under 100 carb durring maintenance.

I think the trick is juice the the veggies rather than any fruits, and try adding in the liquified veggies as a meal replacement for 2-3 meals per week.

The premise is that cutting/oxidising/cooking your veggies destroys the "micro-nutrients" so juicing them is beneficial from a micro-nutrient standpoint rather than from a "macro-nutrient" low carb approach. Nonetheless I think both concepts can be blended together to maintain keto/LC while upping micronutrient availability.

I watched this last night. Overall I thought it was very good, and I'm glad I had already decided to give up caffeinated diet sodas earlier in the day!

I did think the guy who had worked with Dr. Atkins but apparently had no clue about the Atkins diet wasn't helpful. He said he essentially "did Atkins during the day and Pritkin (I think?) at night". So he never really gave Atkins a fair try. And it doesn't help the general public to think Atkins is "zero carb". I also thought the part about juicing was a bit infomerical-ish and smacked of a "one size fits all" approach. I could never ever drink that much vegetable juice and not gain weight. And I totally realize other people can eat more carbs than I can and be just fine. But as I said overall, it was a good message and had a lot of positive points.
