Alcohol ? Lesser of all evils...

I have not had a drink since dec 28 when I started the woe. I am going on vacation the end of the week and plan on indulging in a few drinks:)

Which is the lesser of the evils -

Michelob Ultra
Red wine
flavored vodka and club

picklepete 02-09-2013 01:08 PM

I'd go with the wine.

Beer is very high glycemic index. Distilled liquors like vodka are okay but some flavored ones have sugar and some don't.

hopewell 02-09-2013 02:04 PM

I'm a vodka girl myself. No problems so far. :-)

abby! 02-09-2013 02:12 PM

no beer! :)

wine is ok but it's about 125 calories for a decent glass while vodka is about 70 for a shot. so if only having one glass, wine is ok. If having many drinks, you get to enjoy more for less damage with hard liquor but absolutely zero calorie mixers like club, diet tonic, diet ginger ale and so on. and yes, be careful with flavored vodka some of them contain sugar. Have a great vacation!

Vodka it is... And wine with dinner :)

lterry913 02-09-2013 02:29 PM

Watch out for the flavored vodkas...some, like Pinacle have plenty of carbs. Others are very low carb friendly tho.

Dry Wine not sweet

hopewell 02-09-2013 02:33 PM

By the way Lisa, I LOVE your smiley weighing itself and fainting. Too funny.

muncheechee 02-09-2013 04:49 PM

Oh... and be aware that your alcohol tolerance will likely be pretty low as long as you eat lc... the alcohol is burned first and that buzz can sneak up on you with a quickness ;)

fozzie99 02-09-2013 05:55 PM

That's a great reason to abstain for long periods....when you do drink it doesn't take much to buzz!

Rhubarb 02-09-2013 06:11 PM

I don't drink all that much at the moment but I did recently go to Las Vegas and drank way too many vodka and sodas. I stayed on the plan and didn't gain any weight.

I've found that alcohol will stall losses, though, for at least a couple of days, sometimes more. It's a matter of priorities. If the fun is important then be aware that your weight loss will probably slow. Sometimes it's worth it. ;)

CindyCRNA 02-09-2013 06:18 PM

Vodka is zero carb, isn't it?

lterry913 02-09-2013 06:21 PM

Not all vodka...like I said some have carbs...some flavored not all...Pinacle flavored vodkas have carbs.

reddarin 02-09-2013 06:37 PM

Live it up! Champagne is LC friendly :)

beer is more problematic even when the carbs are low. I forget the exact science of it, but I was convinced.

of the others, the best is something you will NOT drink fast and not drink more than one of! perhaps something you don't like all that much. champagne is good for that. sounds divine and never lives up to it, even the very expensive kinds!

snowdancer79 02-10-2013 01:11 PM

Any of the 3 should be okay in moderation. Michelob Ultra will have the lowest alcohol content obviously.

Biochic 02-10-2013 02:25 PM

Thanks for your input everyone! Friday cannot come soon enough!!

Ultras

Watch out for the "ultras". Some of them are "low" carb, but it's more in comparison to the normal version of that kind. For example, I was super excited to find Mic Ultra Cider. Then, after I got home and cracked on open, it was 10 carbs!!! To me, that's not low carb enough :/. But a friend pointed out, that compared to other ciders, it probably is. Boo! Needless to say, I sent them all home with her when she left.

I stick to rum and diet coke. No carbs and it doesn't take much to get going.

greybb1 02-10-2013 10:08 PM

Rum & Diet Coke
Cosmo (vodka & a little cranberry)
Martini
Tequila shots! YUM

I happen to like Club Soda with lime. Not alcohol but it sure is refreshing!

brandyelocini 02-10-2013 10:41 PM

I just drink whatever I want drink because my alcohol tolerance is WAY lower when I'm low carbing. It doesn't really matter what you drink cause you don't even have to drink that much of it to get a buzz. Usually one drink does it for me!

I always drink club soda with lime! I'm thinking of just adding vodka to that and avoiding the flavored vodkas
My other option is to use flavored seltzer with plain vodka. Choices, choices!

baileygirl3 02-11-2013 03:33 AM

When I drink I drink Ultra (plain) did not know they had cider like someone mentioned. It does not effect me, however I am only drinking a few with the hubs.

LoriAS 02-11-2013 06:37 AM

I always have spiced rum and diet dr pepper now. NO CARBS and very YUMMY!

That's what I do. Just plain Vodka and soda with lime. I bought some of those little flavored bottles with stevia to carry in my purse just in case I'm really tempted to go for something more caloric, but I haven't found I needed them. (The orange is quite good and it adds no color, which is nice.)
