I joined a challenge
On-line, was $20, you have to lose 4% of your current weight in 4 weeks to get your money back. Those that lose the challenge, their money is divided up by the winners.
I was talking to a few friends about having a rough time sticking to it, they said trying to get their money back was the best motivation, so I'm gonna try it too! The only sucky part, you have to take a full body photo of yourself before and after, and of course a pic of what the scales read too. So I'll be on here A LOT more for meal ideas and especially support, which you all are so great at!!! ![]() And the first thing to do is get the pile of clothes off of the treadmill!! ![]()

I'm starting a dietbet online on Monday too, in my group the bet was $25. Sent in my official starting weight today. Let the games begin! It is no more than I have been losing, but it is intimidating to see the 4% number all at once!

My cycling team is doing a weight loss challenge, we all put $10 into the pot and the person who loses the most % wins the pot. It is great incentive!

Interesting idea! Good luck, and don't forget to post an update at the end.

When you say full body shot do you mean face included? Also do you really get the $ back if you lose the 4%? I guess I am confused how the sponsor makes a profit? Thanks for any info! |

Just like the avatar you have. And they probably make money from the advertising on their website.
And 4% isn't really that much in 4 weeks. PS - And yes, you do get your money back, plus an equal share of the pot of those that didn't get their 4%. Last edited by Gibbs; 02-14-2013 at 05:38 AM.. |

Actually you are not guaranteed to get all your money back. Depending on the amount of the individual bets, the website takes out up to 15% for administrative fees from the pot before splitting it up to the winners. Apparently there are enough non-winners typically that most people do get back more than they put in if they lose 4% or more of their starting weight. Plus there seem to be opportunities to have the pot increased by the website itself if you have certain # of friends join, etc. For example, on mine they will kick in $15 if 5 friends that I invite join. You do need to submit two pictures at the beginning, one of you standing on the scale (full body) then a readout of the same scale with the code word they send you. They will reject your weight if they can't see the scale in the full body picture. If you win you need to submit another set of pictures at the end.

You could probably put a black box over your face if you want.

LOL...however, seriously they would not allow that on that website. They need to see it is the same person weighing in both times. They have seen my full length picture, so they are not going to blink an eye at someon weighing in the 140's! They say they keep all photos confidential. They also will not reveal your weight to others unless you specifically check a box to agree to it.

I missed the final weigh in for my challenge because they stupidly scheduled it on Valentine's Day, wth! It was worth it though because my man took me out for a great date, although I was considering suggesting we go to spin class (so I could weigh in) for Valentine's Day!

Hey Gibbs, how did your dietbet challenge go? Mine just finished and I won! Not sure how much money yet though. I am NOT doing another one as it was too much stress and I didn't lose any more than I had been the previous 3 months I had been eating LC.

I won too!! Congrats! And I'm thinking of doing another one, probably for another $20. And I don't know how much I won yet either.

Just found out I won $46.04. So I made $21.04 after my $25 bet. Not bad, but not enough incentive for me to do it again. Maybe if I joined a much larger group.
