I must eat...
an avocado. I don't know why. I detest guacamole and I have never eaten an avocado.
However, I've been dreaming about eating an avocado. ![]() I bought one today. What do I do with it? I am thinking of putting olive oil and salt on it, since I see people put them in salads. I could google but I like you guys better than mr. google. Do you have anything you never liked before and now you want to eat? I detested blue cheese until a year ago, when one day I suddenly decided I had to have some. The smell used to gross me out, now I could eat it daily...no idea why!

Mashed with salt......sliced with italian dressing......sliced or mashed with bacon, mayo in lettuce leaves!!!!

I take half an avocado (still in the peel) and shave some Parmesan over it and then put it under the broiler until the cheese is golden and bubbly. Then I eat it out of the peel, it's a little bowl of heaven. Pepper jack cheese is good too.

Little sqirt of lime and some salt is awesome. I love them in salads too.
I knew a lady who'd have half an avacado in the peel with a spoonful of mayo in the middle. She'd just eat it with a spoon. I've never worked up the nerve to try it that way... |

Avocado salad
Take half an avocado, 2,3or4 GOOD tblsp (all to taste) of mayo, add garlic salt to taste (maybe good pinch, you can add if like more). Mix all in a medium or large bowl. Once you have it tasting good, take half a head of lettuce (the kind you use for hamburgers or sandwiches (having a brain fart right now, cant think of the name) and tear into bit sized pieces and toss into the bowl. Mix/shake to coat the leaves and eat This cannot be kept for later - the lettuce wilts and the avocados get brown but my kids never allow for that to happen!! I grew up on this and never thought about it being Atkins friendly (even induction) until recently when I had an avocado going bad and was thinking of what to do with it - Now my kids see an avocado and ask if I'm making avocado salad

I like them with olive oil & salt.
But make sure it's a Hass (California) avocado...that it's firm but slightly yielding to the touch...and that it isn't whitish-fleshed or stringy inside, but rich yellow-green & buttery. Lots of crappy, watery avocados in stores this time of year, would hate to see you get a bad one and give up on them! |

There must be some new avocado bug going around!
I caught it, too! ![]() For some unknown reason I felt the need to buy a container of fresh guacamole at the farmers market yesterday. I can tell I'm going to be using more guacamole in the future. |

I love avocado mixed with leftover roast chicken, a couple of rashers of crispy bacon, an ounce of crumbled feta cheese and some homemade mayo and fresh ground pepper.... YUMMY!!!!!!!
Also, mashed up avocado, fresh pressed garlic, lemon juice and olive oil with some fresh pepper... Or avocado cubed on top of any type of leaf salad with some toasted pine nuts and a nice vinaigrette dressing... You get my drift... AVOCADO RULES!!!!! |

I slice in half, fill the hole with ranch dressing & slivered almonds and eat it right out of the shell.
FYI, for those who have Aldi's nearby, the avocados are 19 cents each right now!! |

Another way I like to have them is to mash up half an avocado and then crumble a couple of bacon slices into it, stir it up and eat it. I can usually barely finish the half - it's so filling!

One of my favorite restaurants makes this for me: half an avocado filled with pulled chicken and melted cheese. Sides of sour cream and hot sauce for dipping.

avocados. sometimes I adore them, sometimes they make me ill. strange.
if you don't like it when you start to eat it, you can use it to make (in a blender) a very thick soup like split pea, sorta. just blend with some chicken broth and a little garlic. maybe some cumin and smoked paprika or chili powder? delicious and much less avocado flavored! LOL |
