My latest fast-food "love affair"
OK, I'm a little schizophrenic when it comes to food.
On the one hand, there are certain things we just don't even buy if they're not organic. On the other hand, we eat fast food. ![]() It is what it is. Sometimes, everyone is too tired & exhausted to cook, there's nothing ready (and it would take an hour of dishes to GET ready), and... it's quick. For a while, my drive-thru of choice was Wendy's BLT Cobb Salad. (Which I may go back to, soon.) But right now? I'm loving KFC. Specifically, grilled wings. Today, I got up early, ate some fat-bombs, went to the gym, had a couple more, and then we went out... to this special event at a local National Monument, where we were far away from any kind of food. I packed a quick lunch, but... We're talking QUICK. No pre-planning, on food. For me? That meant nuts, because that's what I had that would travel well. So we wandered around, and then went kayaking.... By the time we were approaching civilization again, we were starved... Hubby asked if we could get something, rather than cleaning up and then cooking. So we did KFC... I didn't order my wings, though. I got a couple pieces of (grilled) dark, to share with my daughter. Ate a thigh, and it was good... OK, whatever. Hubby ordered the wings. And they screwed up and gave him too many. Now, these are WHOLE wings, so half a dozen is a LOT, and he had at least 8. I swear, I bit into one wing, and that was it: I was golden. I swear, I FELT my body screaming, "YES! That's what we needed!" I've really just got to buy a package of wings and make some at home. (Cuz I cook WAY better than Col. Sanders.) In the meantime, though, if I have to grab fast food, this is gonna be my go-to for a while! ![]()

I'm on a wing kick right now and have had them 4 nights this week. I bought another package of frozen wings today to cook up in a couple of days. Sooooo, how were your awesome KFC wings seasoned? Were they just plain grilled, or did they have something extra yummy on them?

Good to know! I like wings-n-things, which I think is just in southern cal, but I'm kinda boycotting them now bc they charge like a buck a wing and its just rediculous to pay that much. I used to love to get the 18 piece and eat it for three meals, but it just irritates me too much to pay $20 for it. Anyhow, next time I get the urge, I'll try KFC.

I made wings for the first time last weekend- but I deep fried mine and then dunked them in Franks and butter. I've always been afraid of making wings, but I finally just took the plunge. I have a few burn marks on my arm from the popping coconut oil, but it was totally worth it. They were fantastic.
I can not say enough how much I love Wendy's chicken blt cobb salad! It's so yummy! My other love at Wendy's is a triple with no bun or ketchup- add bacon. It's sinful. |

I am laughing also. I am the same. As much as I hate buying processed there are a few things in jars I just love and won't give up. Alfredo sauce is one. I hate mine from scratch. tried a few variations and I still love the junky bottle brand---won't be giving it up. |

Not fast food but I went to a Wild Wings Cafe for the first time last week. Didn't know they had a wing buffet. Medium Wings, Wild West Wings with ranch seasoning cooked in, Cajun Wings.....with celery and bleu cheese. Awesome.

We will probably get KFC tomorrow night before grocery shopping. Usually I get the grilled breast + wing, but maybe this time I will get all wings. They are tastier since they have a much higher skin to meat ratio. They usually seem so scrawny though! Hopefully I will luck out and get some huge ones like you did.
Oh, I am pretty schizophrenic with food too. Grass-fed beef and Atkins shakes are quite compatible in my mind! ![]() Last edited by Mistizoom; 01-27-2013 at 08:58 AM.. |

Aside from things like prepared mustard or pickles, there's literally NO "prepared foods" in my kitchen.
And then I hit drive-thru. ~chuckles~ At least it makes me AWARE of how bad I'm being when we do it. The main "seasoning" I taste at KFS is salt. They don't have a lot of subtlety -- at least not to my taste-buds. But they give you the WHOLE wing, and... yeah... Fat-to-skin ratio for the win. I've honestly never made wings at home -- I usually buy either the whole chicken, or a package of thighs. Did I really type "fat to skin"? I think that shoulda been "meat to skin"... my Freudian Slip is showing! (Think I'm hungry -- I'm going to go eat my last fat-bomb, now! lol) |

Please be careful with KFC "grilled" chicken for hidden carbs especially wheat. See ingredients below from their website:
KFC® Grilled Chicken Fresh Chicken Marinated With Water, Seasoning (Salt, Modified Corn Starch, Sodium Phosphates, Monosodium Glutamate, Potassium Phosphate, and Carrageenan.) Seasoned With: Maltodextrin, Salt, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Monosodium Glutamate, Spice, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added As Anticaking Agents. Contains Wheat and Soy. |

Ugh.
![]() Well, it's still better than a lot of other options, given that we're discussing fast food. They list all their grilled chicken at 0 carbs/piece except the wings (which they list at 1). I ALWAYS assume, when eating out but ESPECIALLY with fast food, that they've pulled crap like that. I count on there being hidden carbs snuck in... Fortunately I don't have wheat-specific issues... Still this just brings it back to the last paragraph of my original post: Gotta start making my OWN wings! ![]() |

LG - KFC's grilled wings are actually very, very good! I like them too but rarely get them because they take 20 min since they are grilled to order and it defeats the purpose of the quick drive thru.
We stick to In-N-Out when we need something fast. |

And MSG. They add it to make everything taste better than it is... it tricks our little taste buds! (But I do admit, I still have KFC from time to time too!)

My love affair is with Arby's Jr. turkey with swiss instead of cheddar. I just throw away the bun.
I'll have to try out the wings. They sound yummy. |

Around here, as long as you order fewer than 6, they usually have them ready. And they've got this "THING", locally, about getting orders out in 60 seconds or less.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. Usually I steer clear of KFC on account of trans fast and MSG, but once in a while I break that rule.

YUM WINGS.
I like the tequila-lime ones from Costco, dipped in ranch dressing. I cook them MUCH longer than the package says to...about 90 minutes to get them firm/crispy. I am so getting more after reading your post...could use a meal of a pile of wings, ranch, some sliced avocado and homemade coleslaw!!! |

Now I want wings...lol. Considering getting a new deep fryer because wings are just so much better fried than roasted and I hate frying in a pot. I'll have to remember kfc next time I'm desperate for something fast that I don't have to cook

This is why it is very handy to live an hour from any fast food! If I want it, I gotta make it myself. Now I want some wings... mmmm

Still, a wing buffet sounds amazing. And no breading! My fiancé literally works a minute away from it, and he's totally dead-set on giving it a go one day. But who wants to eat at a wing buffet solo on their lunch break? Maybe I'll go on a day off someday. ![]() |

I could eat wings with days with "y" in them and sometimes I do. My friends don't even bother to ask me where I want to eat if we go out. They just look at me and roll their eyes. I know the witresses at BW3 all on a first name basis!

I wouldn't say "regularly". I think it worked out to maybe 6 times in as many weeks (and not at all evenly distributed).
My weight's been holding steady for a little bit, and I decided several weeks ago I was "just going to do maintenance" for a month or so, and take the pressure off. No, I've seen no particular change. I HAVE, however, discovered Wild Wing Cafe, thanks to this post! The past two days I was running errands, and thus ALONE for lunch... and so I indulged. |
