Anyone drink wine on Atkins WOE???

I just thought I'd put it out there, for anyone that partakes in alcohol moderately while doing low carb?

Well, yes. But i don't think its a good idea. I know it slows me down. Plus its the gateway to one small indiscretion, that often leads to another one and another.

This time around I am severely limiting wine. i will have a vodka/ diet tonic once in awhile, but that carries little of the appeal for me as wine.

I think that the "danger" is water retention and the fact that your body stops buring fat to start burning the alcohol. Some wines can be pretty carby too.

I drink red wine - mostly shiraz, merlot or pinot noir. A couple of glasses 2-3 times a week. I'm in maintenance and it doesn't cause a weight gain at all, even including all the cheddar cheese and almonds I scarf afterwards. LOL! I count the carbs in my daily allowance.

When I was actively losing, I kept my limit to a glass or maybe two a week.

Wine had no effect on me while I was losing. I would have 2 - 3 glasses each evening and I still averaged 2.5 lbs / week loss. Everyone is different.

I drink wine often. One of my weaknesses. However, I have not lost any weight in a while. That could be my vice. I am fine with my current weight but would LOVE to lose 10 more pounds, maybe if I give up the wine I will. I have been maintaining 144 for a while and no gains so all is good with me. Its snowing today and hubby and I are going to enjoy wine...oh well, I will take the good with the bad.

I'm not drinking at the moment (giving the liver a rest after Christmas, until March and St Patrick's Day) but usually I drink a glass or two once or twice a week, and then vodka at weekends. Having said that, I've been off alcohol more than on it since I re-started low carbing in August, only drinking on 'special' days like the All Ireland Football Final - and more generally at Christmas

I didn't weigh myself until 3 weeks ago, so I can't really tell you if it slowed me down, but 56lbs have come off since August, so am happy enough!

Alcohol is a rung in ongoing weight loss. If you've gone that far no reason you can't transition in a serving every one in awhile. I skipped it pretty much entirely because I think wine is generally gross (I've only had a handful that were tolerable) and dislike drinking in general, but it is allowed - just not in induction or the first few rungs.

It can be a staller so be aware.

DH is a winemaker and instead of better pay he gets a case of each of the 47 different varietals they bottle each year. So we have a glass with dinner every night. I have tried not drinking wine for a few weeks at a time and haven't seen any difference with weight loss doing that.

Wine with dinner is self defense! If we didn't drink this stuff we'd have to throw pillows and covers on all the boxes and call it furniture (In reality, we donate a lot of it to charitable events, and share the bounty with friends and family).

I drink a pretty fair amount of wine-- 2-3 glasses about 3 nights a week. Most LCers would recommend sticking to red wines because they have lower carb counts. I've found Sauvignon Blanc has around the same count as reds as well, which is great because I prefer right.

Red wine makes me stall sometimes, but I just keep on losin' when I drink dry whites.

I've decided to abstain this time because I've found that even just a little alcohol is enough to weaken my willpower. Who knows, perhaps when I'm well on my way I might have some on very special occasions.

I lost fine at first drinking wine almost nightly.
Then the loss slowed.
Then it really slowed.
I gave up the wine, not for the weight loss, but because I decided I really didn't need to be drinking every day.
Went to the Dr. a few months later and had dropped 25-lbs without even realizing it. The wine was the only change.

Somewhere along the line, I started having my wine again.
Now I'm totally stalled, gaining even. I think I need to totally give it up again and see if that is the magic bullet to get me going in the down direction again. Couldn't hurt.

This is a YMMV thing, but remember your body burns
alcohol first
then carbs
then fat
So you are delaying fat burning while your body burns up the alcohol.

It has not had any negative effect on me. I actually find I loose better when I drink sometimes. Good thing, too, cause I enjoy a party with my classmates every once in a while! I stick to hard liquor and red wine...! If I see any gain, it can be a slight water retention the next day...but that is always gone the day after and I seriously believe that a little alcohol has helped my weight loss along!

I do but not daily or I will wake up next day bloated and it stops ketosis which is a step back but if I am going to do this the rest of my life which both my boyfriend and I plan to, and we don't want to give up the wine, then the slower weight loss is ok with me.

I I definitely add to my daily carb count. And that can add up quickly!

yes but I gain if I pair it with food. I have to drink it all by itself (like a dessert). But the problem is it makes me hungry so when I plan for all by itself, sometimes that doesn't happen. I also gain if I have been lazy all week and not excercised and drank.

I don't gain and I still lose those times I manage to drink it 2 hours after dinner, and I make sure its the LAST THING that has touched my lips. But its hard to do that. And I drink 2 glasses always. Unless its some fancy old vine stuff, then 1 is plenty!

I am actually UP 5 lbs in 2 weeks so I am cutting out alchohol and meat till its gone. Meat because I am lowering protein and upping fat. I used to be a fat vegetarian so it shouldn't be hard.

I am giving myself 10 days to lose it all that I have gained from my overconsumption of wine and holiday "bites".

I find alcohol stalls my weightloss, so I am waiting until I am well and truly nearing goal before drinking a glass of wine with dinner every evening again. I have decided that probably I will drink some on special occasions, but so far even when I have allowed myself some, I haven't felt the need.

I do cook with red wine though....

When I drink, I get very hungry the following day or two. So I end up eating more calories the following day even while keeping my carb count in control.

If I can keep it to a glass of wine or bourbon, it slows me but doesn't stall me. The problem comes when I've had a couple more than that... and eat anything that isn't tied down.

Plus, since I'm one of the lucky ones who need to watch calories as well as carbs, alcohol uses up too many of my precious daily-allotted calories. It's not worth it every day. Once a week, maybe. But not all the time.

Hmmm...I must be the only one that thinks alcohol actually helps my weight loss...I wonder how that can be true, when everyone else has the opposite experience? Interesting thing to ponder, I guess.

I sometimes notice a loss the morning after drinking alcohol. It's probably the dehydration effect, though. However, I never experienced a weight gain from it.

After an extended 8 month or so induction I added wine back in, a couple of glasses per weekend was all though of either dry white or red. I couldn`t stop thinking about the Atkins book saying your body has to burn the alcohol first before returning to burning the fat and I always felt so guilty that I could be losing more, if I just went by the book. So, I ended up only having a glass or two on a special occasion until I reached my goal weight. I drink probably close to a bottle (750 ml) of red or white now on weekends, during maintenance and I really enjoy the indulgence.

Not wine but I put back the vodka once a month like it is nobody's business.

So far I have actually noticed that after my drinking binges I will lose weight really well the week after.

However I do not cheat besides the vodka and diet pop. I drink tons of water and eat well before and after. Works for me!
