carbs ups?

I was just wondering what some of your opinions on carb ups were. Do you eat more carbs on specific days? does it help or stall weight loss?

I've tried Upping my carbs when stalled but didn't work for me. If anything lowering them even more has worked for me this time. I'd been about the same weight for about 3 months and finally this week I seem to be losing again! Thank God!

obese people with poor metabolisms probably shouldn't do it. and those of us with carb addiction can find that even one meal with high carbs sets off the cravings and overeating and regaining for months...

some people think it works. be careful though!!!

Refeeds aren't what I'd recommend unless you can demonstrably prove that a lack of carbs or overall calories is indeed the cause of a stall for your body. Otherwise I'd recommend just the opposite :)

Generally speaking, cutting carbs further and increasing fat is more effective (for any kind of positive or desirable outcome) than upping carbs.

"Carb loading", often touted for athletics, is not NEARLY as effective for prolonged energy as a keto-adapted body on a high-fat diet.

I imagine it would really depend on what you mean by carbs. A 30g dose of potato or wild rice is not the same thing as a donut for example.

ah ok, thanks everyone! everything you said makes a lot of sense, dont think ill be refeeding then! and your right, healthy carbs for refeeding is a lot different than junk!

Guy named 'otzi' has several very interesting threads over at MDA concerning the so-called "potato fast" with some good empirical results. Having tried it myself, it does seem that there's a big difference between things like potatoes and the refined grain/sugar blowouts that drove most ppl to LC in the first place. If you're coming off big successes but have plateaued/stalled, I think targeted healthy carb refeeds are well worth considering!

I have to say that I wasn't losing for a loooong time eating vlc with no cheating. I stalled for 18 months. I upped my carbs to 50-75 from 20 and started a 3 x per week weight lifting regimen plus mild-moderate short hikes and I lost 7 lbs. Now I'm stuck at my current weight, but I have hope! Btw, I upped my carbs using sweet potatoes and bananas. I did it very intentionally because those foods are supposed to be good for people who have trouble with absorption issues as I do. Good luck with whatever you decide!! :)

oh wow, thats interesting! looks like ill have to look a little more into it! I did stall for a couple month but this was around halloween/thanksgiving where i think i was cheating a little too much. I became more strict as January started and have lost 4 more pounds, but started to worry it was muscle not fat since it dropped in 2 pound increments.

I am trying to start a workout plan too so I think if I have a big stall i will definitely up my carbs but with healthy choices, I would love to add fruit back int my diet. I always seem to be craving the chocolates and sweets though! just got to remind myself that if im adding more carbs in that doesn't mean chocolate and cake lol!
