stall
Thinking of substituting my normal lunches for an atkins shake. What do you think? I usually don't have too much time for lunch. I usually sip on a diet soda and might be able to grab some precooked bacon outta the fridge if I am lucky. I always bring something and prepare for it but seldom do I eat it. It will help lower my cal and carbs as well. I am already in a stall. Wondering if fewer cals and carbs might get me out of this rut.

If you're in a stall, you want to AVOID Atkins-products. Adding them will NOT help you break out. They CAUSE stalls for many people.
I'd say skip the soda, substitute some (unsweetened) tea (with a little lemon juice if you need something). Artificial sweeteners are often a problem -- they're another thing you should try to eliminate in a stall. And I second the high-fat suggestion. Last stall I had I broke with (LC) cheesecake. |

I would suggest a hearty homemade soup in a thermos. Something as simple of chicken broth with a tbsp of butter can be quite satiating and nutritious. Or you could make a creamed soup such as broccoli or cauliflower.

How long is this stall?
because it took me 3 weeks to lose 1 lb. and I kinda thought it was a stall. but I stayed the course and lost more and more. I was going to start to moan about it but decided to ride it thru. and are you eating enough??? if no lunch then are you eating enough on the other meals to make it a good day of food? |

NO that is not enough food. I am 208.5 right now (down from 230) and I am eating WAY more than you
I have 2 eggs, 4 slices bacon then a big salad full of veggies with ranch and cheese and sauteed chicken snack dinner is always meat and veggies maybe another snack 3 cups of broccoli with cheese and ranch is not enough for dinner at all. There are others that are real good at telling if you are eating enough. I know a few will chime in here. I really think you need 'a bit' more. Don't eat less!!

Not for everyone. Lower calories and focusing on whole foods is what always broke my stalls.
I definitely wouldn't turn to an Atkins shake to break a stall. How's your cheese consumption? How many carbs in the dry ranch dip? Do you count all the carbs in dairy? Can you give a menu with the portion sizes? Because something like cheese can mean an oz or a cup and that;s a big difference. Last edited by nolcjunk; 01-21-2013 at 05:50 PM.. |

What about something like a heavy whipping cream diet soda float instead of an Atkins shake? It will give you the fat and calories you need, and it won't have all the junk in it.

I agree. I would opt for the real food. A few cubes of cheese and some almonds (just a few) will satisfy you and balance your blood sugar. Or, take a fat bomb and nibble on it. I like the idea of a float, too. Yum.

good for you. that is good eating thru the day BUT you gotta get in some more veggies. veggies are really important (you know more than just the old lettuce)
I did a big omlette with bacon and cheese (so stuffed) house salad, ribs, asparagus atkins bar I think your menu is good but somehow throw in more veggies even if you just got to eat some raw as a snack. I love broccoli and swipe on some cream cheese on the florets. yummy actually |

Are you m/f? How much are you exercising/moving during the day? This all matters because stalls can be common when people have had success losing weight and are in fear of ramping up their calories because doing what you have been doing has worked... Oh and one more question, how much water are you drinking? Water is soooooo important, and sometimes, especially when you aren't drinking enought, the fat that you are burning will fight to absorb the water to keep the cells plump, but, at somepoint when you continue to burn, the fat will eventually "release" from your body and the person can have a giant leap in weight. Drinking plenty of water helps this system regulate, and keeps the fat cells moving on... Also, more importantly than weighing yourself, have you tried to use a measuring tape? Measure your stomach, neck, arms, thighs and chest.... it's a better indicator that you are losing fat and maybe not pounds, which would be completely ideal.

I read somewhere an article written on Yahoo from a person who lost over 100lbs doing Atkins that when she stalled she would give herself a cheat day and restart Atkins from the induction phase and she them continued to lose weight.
Now I'm not subscribing it. How I Lost 100 Pounds in 2007 with the Atkins Diet - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com |

heavy cream is limited for me. I know what you mean that it can throw calories thru the roof.
less soda is a great idea obviously. brocc only? I would increase the veggie intake somehow in this day. I can't wait til you post "I lost some weight. the scale moved!" LOL |

I have been slightly stalling the last few days (gained a lb overnight and was like wth!), and I remembered a chapter in Phinney and Volek that explained stalls really well. I do not have the book with me, but I want to read it again because I forgot everything. However, their point was that nothing you tweak in your daily meal plan will really significantly stop a stall if you were following the same plan and did not change anything to cause the stall (ie, increase carbs). You kind of have to ride through a stall, maybe even for several weeks to over a month. It has to do with the balance of losing fat and having your body replace fat with water, which is more dense than fat (oil floats on water). Your body takes a while to adjust to changes in its %fat, but once it does, which again, might take several weeks and might actually cause you to gain a lb or more, you will have a sudden WHOOSH of several lbs at once.
The logic of eating a high carb day to stop a stall escapes me. Eating high carbohydrates may end up helping you lose some water right away, but ultimately, it will not help your blood sugar and it probably won't even help you stop retaining water overall because it causes you to retain water, not lose water. The only way to really help you end a water retention stall is to drink a ton of water, cut out caffeine, and any other diuretic inducing products. Or, wait. But don't put yourself out of ketosis, it won't help in the long run, and probably not in the short term either. |

I have been at a stand still for months now. I just can't seem to lose no matter what, however, I am grateful I have not gained...I can't seem to budge either, Not sure if my body is getting ready for maintenance mode or something. I will go like this sometimes where I will not lose for a few months, then wham I will all of a sudden lose like 5 pounds or more out of the blue, maybe that will happen to you too.

I have read success stories of people losing ALOT of weight. in most of them there is mention of LONG stalls. months. but they stick to plan and one day WHAM it all kicks in again and they lose more and more. So don't ever panic and think none of this isn't working anymore. it is. your body adjusts and all that mess and then one day...boom, you are at goal and can't believe it
