atkins bars and kids

I bought the peanut butter cups.

I am EH on them but my 7 year old daughter loves them.

It would be ok to sub these for the usual reese's peanut butter cups for a kid right? I mean they are healthier right, then their sugar counterpart.

and I could give her others if she likes them.

anyone give them to their kids????
thanks

I would be careful giving a kid anything with sugar alcohols in them. They cause terrible tummy problems, gas and diarrhea.

As far as being healthier, no, they're not. Just because they are "sugar free" does not mean they are healthier.

They still have 160 calories, 120 from FAT and 18g of sugar alcohols. That's more fat than in original Hershey's Reeses peanut butter cups.

If you want to give her candy, I suggest you stick with the originals.

If you want to give her a healthy snack, try some fresh fruit.

I'll give my kids recipes with artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols in them, but I really try to avoid products. I usually use erythritol, liquid sucralose, and stevia... All digest better than maltitol/sorbitol/et al.

If you have a few you want to get rid of feeding her a half of one on occasion is likely not going to be the end of the world, but I'd be more inclined to make a sugar free cookie or candy at home for my kids, as I can control the ingredients better than prepackaged products. For sugar free, home made is almost always much less gastrointestinally questionable.

You can also make your own peanut butter cups with whatever kind of and how much sweeteners you like.

Ravenrose always reminds us that giving high fat foods to someone who generally consumes more than 150 carbs a day can be bad for health. It is a big issue when one person in house eats low carb and adds fats to accommodate his or her diet but family eats normally and is getting the additional fat along with them....fat and carbs is a big NONO.
Keep this in mind for your little one...and the belly problems from malitol may make her not want them anyway.
