Anyone else become a clothes horse since losing weight?
I used to hate clothes shopping with a passion and now I can't seem to stop. I replaced most of my summer wardrobe last September, but went down another size since then and had to buy all smaller pants. Then the cold weather came and I needed new ski clothing and coats and long johns (I'm a poster child for LL Bean when I go outside). Then I decided my clothes really looked kind of "youngish" for my age, so I've been replacing some of the jeans and tank tops with blazers and dress pants. Can't seem to get out of a store anymore without buying something to wear. I justify it by telling myself that the stuff was all marked down. When the total $ spent got high enough to make me feel guilty about it, I switched to thrift stores.
I think I'm building a costly wardrobe as "incentive" not to gain the weight back again. And, so far, it's working... I gained 2 lbs. over night from salty foods last week and felt sheer panic at the thought of outgrowing all those new clothes! |

Yes. My current weakness is coats and jackets. I have decided to stay out of the mall and REI for the next several weeks. I have a real weakness for winter clearance items.
I live in a cold winter climate, and I resolved to get out of the house more this winter. Well, winter hiking and biking required new technical clothing (in my mind). At least it has succeeded in getting me out of the house, because I have enjoyed hiking and biking in my new stuff. |

Same for me. I'm a technical clothes junkie. If we ever actually get enough snow to play in this year, all my sweat will be wicked away properly.

I haven't been buying any clothes because all the stuff in my closet fits again. It's such a great feeling to easily put on a favorite pair of pants and remember that a year ago I wasn't even close to being able to button them. I'm enjoying getting dressed for work again.

Since I'm still on my way, I'm not buying too much stuff, but I am obsessed with cleaning out my clothes of things that no longer fit. I just passed along four huge tubs of clothes. I only have a few mre things I can grow down into. I love love love being able to go into old navy and shop! Vanity sizing be damned!

Since I have been able to again tuck myself into Size 14 pants (thank you spandex content) sometimes I go shopping and try things on from the regular-size rack just because I can. I'm learning to train my eye about fit and flattery, and enjoying the bigger selection. No longer will I be stuck with any old 'tent' that I can afford!
I'm not buying much, except for a very few pieces of workout gear as special treats. |

I just bought a dress 2 sizes smaller than I wear and am hoping to be in it by summer. I have it hanging on my closet door as a reminder.

I've been buying tops & dresses and needed a couple of new bathing suits for our upcoming trip. I'm no where near my goal weight and have about 20 pairs of jeans of various sizes so I'll hold off on any jeans until I run out of ones that fit. I've also bought 2 new winter jackets that fit now and one on clearance that will fit next year. Even though I've still got a way to go I'm starting to like the way I look in clothes again and actually want to dress up for the first time in a long time. Hubby will not be happy with my shopping habits once I hit goal!

Yes! And I need to stop. I'm a 'normal' weight and size for the first time in my life--but I'm retired now and don't need many clothes. Yet everytime I see something 'cute' that I know will look good, I buy. Recently, I've started questioning purchases--as in "Where and when would I ever wear that?" And that's helped me gain some control.

Love hitting resale shops when I can! It took me Forever to change my pattern though of going Automatically heading towards the Plus size clothes! It was So ingrained in me that i'd head right there. It still feels weird to head towards the size 6-8 jeans instead of 16's! I can't Wait to find some cute sundresses for summer! I haven't wore a cut sun dress in 20 Years! I tried on my Tankini from a few yrs ago when I lost weight (But gained it back Plus some) and it's to big! So i'll need a new swimsuit! Ekk I can actually take my kids to the pool and not be embarrased this summer. Things like this keep me going and keep me Wanting to lose the rest of my weight and get healthier

It's gotten really bad. I've "grounded" myself from clothes shopping because I've managed to accumulate quite the wardrobe, especially of fabulous dresses, in size 8. It's a great incentive for maintaining! (And a disincentive for losing any more, but I digress.)
I love grabbing clothes from the normal sizes and knowing that I will be able to buy what looks FABULOUS instead of what looks "least bad". |

I had to get rid of winter clothes because they didn't fit anymore. So I bought clothes that I thought would get me through the winter, well I grew out of those. I think I've lost more inches than I have pounds. Not complaining though!

I justify it by buying in cheaper stores or get things on clearance. I still feel guilty though so I tend to take the tags off and stuff the clothes in my drawers for a bit so when I do wear it I can say that I have had it for awhile... Hubby wasn't born yesterday so I think he is on to my tricks hehehe!

I am still so tickled at being to walk into almost any shop and buy clothes. I wear a 16 most of the time now, so not all shops carry my size, but most do. It's divine!

Well I have not yet learned not to get rid of my fat clothes when I lose wt. I have bags full of size 8 stuff (can't part with that) but size 14 and 12 hit the trash! Unfortunately I need size 12 now so ebay it is! New clothes at a fraction of the cost

I still hate it but I keep having to do it as I lose weight. I have been through 4 different sizes so far. I am going to thrift stores. Once I get to goal, then I will buy a new wardrobe. That should be fun.

Well, it's nice to know I'm not the only one with a shopping issue (I think I'm "binge" shopping).
It's hard not to get carried away, when you've worked so long at losing weight and dreamed of that day that you could buy something nice in your goal size. That incentive was a big help to me. I had some size 2 jeans that I saved for 10 years, hoping to get back into them. I can't tell you how many afternoons I was craving food like crazy and averted disaster by trying those clothes on instead of raiding the fridge. Now they're too big, so I got to shop at actual stores for new ones (and some used). I think I'm actually overdoing it because I don't know what to use for incentive next! I'm afraid I'll lose my grip once the weight loss becomes old news and my new wardrobe becomes the same old stuff I've been wearing. I need a goal that requires me to keep the weight off in order to do it... or I'll have to become one of those women who gets a new wardrobe each season. ![]() Last edited by NH_Free; 01-18-2013 at 04:10 PM.. I was just saying to my DH that I like my body for the first time that I can remember. This translates to trying on clothes and loving most of them.
I went crazy when I hit size 8. Luckily I did it mostly in thrift stores so it didn't hit my pocketbook too badly. I justified it because I really had to replace my entire wardrobe. There are so many really nice clothes that people give away, I have a much nicer wardrobe now than I did before! Another thing that I kind of went over the top with is boots. I could never get those darned things over my calves, but now they fit great and I can't seem to get enough. I have so many pairs now and I keep trying to justify new ones

I think I bought a tshirt a week for two months. Usually on the clearance rack, but still. I am wearing a 14 easy. But I've got a couple size 12 jeans that are tight. I keep wearing them so they remind me to keep working at losing. I'd like to be in a 10 by December. I've got a year to get there and I'm almost back to -70. (Holidays killed me). But I've been window shopping for weeks and I am looking at the clearance racks for summer clothes in smaller sizes. I've got a couple pairs of shorts in smaller sizes so I have something to work for.

Include me in the guilty - I shrank through all of my goal clothes that I had in my drawers waiting for years to be worn, so I bought new jeans and they got too big and I to buy a smaller size again. Poor me I had to buy all new sweaters and long sleeve shirts for winter LOL and I have boughten more new shoes/boots in the last 6 months than I think I have in my adult life. You could of never gotten me to shop like this before but now I just love buying cute clothing because I don't have to worry if it will fit or look good.
