What to eat when you are sick
I started back on the low carb WOE after Christmas. I have been doing okay with it until today.
Today I am nauseous - as in I got a virus or something going on. The idea of eating meat or eggs makes me ill, and a salad isn't that far behind. Any suggestions? ![]() |

chicken stock, protein shakes if you can handle them. Drink fluids, stay hydrated, feel better!

Do you have any broth on hand? I always have homemade chicken and beef stock in the freezer. Bring it to a boil, drizzle in a beaten egg and add some sliced scallions. Egg drop soup!

I agree with the suggestion of chicken soup or broth.
Green tea, ginger teas are good to help you fight off a virus. So is coconut oil. Drink lots of water. Take extra vitamin D3 & fish oil if you have some. I hope you're feeling better soon! |

I was watching a you tube where she claims that tumeric brings on healing fast . In about a 1/4 c of heated milk you add tumeric and drink. Sorry I cant remember amount. I have been adding tumeric to everything including my broth, I also second EVCO I have not even had a cold so far this winter, I also keep gingerale in cans around it helps with nausea also ginger tea .

plain chicken breasts, steamed
plain chicken broth THis works for me. And when my poor dog had been hit by a car and couldn't keep anything down during his recovery, the vet recommended the exact same thing for him: poach chicken breasts in chicken broth and then puree them together, and eat 2 tablespoons every 2 hours. It worked wonders for him too and allowed him to heal. |

I agree with broth, with chicken and celery in it. Swanson canned broths are good, or use bouillon if you have it.
You could make oopsies or floopsies and have them as toast. Mashed cauliflower. (cook it till very soft, add butter and a couple T of cream cheese, salt and pepper, and puree in food processor or good blender. Can turn it into cauliflower soup by adding broth and/or cream.) a low carb tortilla shell with some mild cheese for a quesadilla. cream of whatever soup: about half as much broth as you need for regular soup. add celery, onion, canned mushroom, chicken, whatever you have. Simmer till softened. Puree or blend. Add some heavy cream. Floopsies are easy: Quote:

Homemade broth. Really try to avoid canned ones or those cubes- they are all loaded with msg and other additives that your immune system doesn't need when it's trying to fight off an illness.
Herbal teas chicken soup with lots of vegetables and the chicken cooked until it's mushy and you can eat it without lots of chewing. Last edited by nolcjunk; 01-18-2013 at 06:35 AM.. |

Another good brand is College Inn organic 99% fat free chicken broth, but it is harder to find in my area. Then there are some horrible ones, including some bouillon cubes that don't have any real meat product in them. Is homemade better? Yes, for sure. Do I feel like making homemade broth when I'm sick? Not usually. |

Plus., they are crafty with hiding msg. I have looked at the College Inn one before and it has Organic autolyzed yeast extract- which contains MSG. |

I'm extremely sensitive to MSG, so I started making my own broth long ago, and like nolcjunk, I always try to have some in my freezer. It pays off because it's the times when I want it most that I feel least like making it.
