EGGS!!

How many fried eggs are too many a day? I have been craving them so badly the last few days and I don't know why. I have been eating them and not too much else maybe a little bacon on the side!! Will this cause me to gain? I usually cook it in the bacon grease I have left over or in some butter. What do you think?

I don't eat fried eggs much but I regularly have 3 scrambled eggs almost every day. If you are craving them and not eating 20 per day I doubt you'll gain, even with the bacon. Eggs are low in calories (70 per) so even 10 per day cooked in bacon grease you'll be fine.

I do believe that eggs are a perfect food, but that may just be superstition. I have felt better about eating ton of eggs since reading about the guy who ate 25 eggs every day. I don't think I've ever managed that.

I eat them at least once a day. Sometimes twice. I love them scrambled with bacon and sausage mixed in. I love them fried with some salsa on top. I like them made into an omelet with cheese and ham. I like to make them with a OMM into a mcmuffin. YUM. I think I'll have some eggs for dinner tonight.

I have been in to it as well! I put together a nice egg salad with Dijon and minced shallot, salt and pepper... So good.

For a mere 70 calories and 5 grams of fat, one egg provides 6 grams of high quality protein, consisting of all 13 essential amino acids that our bodies need to help build and retain strong muscles. Eggs are also rich in choline, which is important for brain function, for cell membranes and during pregnancy; B vitamins for metabolic functions and converting food into energy; Lutein, zeaxanthin, selenium and vitamin E, which are antioxidants that aid in eye health, immunity and the reduction of free radicals in the body; and Vitamin A for cell growth and night vision. It is true that eggs are considered to be a significant source of cholesterol. Eggs are actually 14 percent lower in cholesterol than previously thought. One large egg provides 185 mg cholesterol v. 215 mg. Another interesting find is the Vitamin D level has increased 64 percent, providing 41 IU. Overall eggs provide an excellent source of nutrition.

Eggs are so versatile. Fried, scrambled, omelets, quiche, boiled (great for a take along snack) deviled, and of course egg salad. Okay now I'm hungry. Think I'll go boil some eggs

Oh, and I buy eggs raised cagefree, veg fed, with omega 3's. Or from a local farmer when I can get my hands on them. Yeah they're more expensive, but worth it, I think.

I figure sooner or later I will get burt out on them but as for now I am enjoying them. I havent lost anything in a couple of weeks so I am going to lower the amount of bacon but continue on with eating the eggs. Think I need to take out the low carb tortillas too!! I havent been eating very clean so I am going to clean things up a bit!!! I thought all the eggs might be causing me to stall out since they were fried eggs, fried in bacon grease and butter. I know the tortillas and onions were a reason!!

Has anyone seen the utube of the fellow who shows you how to cook a hard boiled egg and he gets the shell off after without having to peal it? It is intriguing.

I eat 5 dozen eggs every two weeks. When I'm short on time I'll crack 'em straight into a preheated buttered pan and hot scramble them on the fly with the spatula(~2-3 minutes). When I've got a bit of time to spend, I'll set the flame low, and whip the eggs in a bowl with Parmesan cheese and heavy cream, before pouring into the pan and letting them cook slowly while constantly gently stirring with the corner of my spatula. This takes more like 8-10 minutes, but delivers a moister and more flavorful product. Sometimes I'll hot-fry 'em to over-medium, and sometimes I'll low-fry 'em to over-medium well. Sometimes I'll bake them in a slice of ham in cupcake tin with shallots and muenster. Sometimes I'll slice Sometimes I boil them...

There are supposed to be more than 100 ways to cook an egg. and every time I think I've found each possible way, this happens:





I have heard that a lot of people end up developing allergies after a diet that leans heavily on eggs. it hasn't happened to me yet, which is good because it's the only way I can afford to survive on this dietary methodology.

Every few meals I'll throw in something different to break up the monotony, but eggs comprise two-thirds of what I eat.

To me, it seems that when I need some nutrient eggs don't provide, I'll tend to crave foods that are rich in that nutrient. When I need broccoli, I want broccoli. When I need onions, I'll want onions - and so forth. I stay on a multivitamin, to fill in the gaps, and try to stay aware of when I'm feeling a deficiency. Which really just amounts to I'll allow myself to eat a single slice of tomato, or some cucumber once or twice a week - whatever it is I need (as long as it's L.C. legit). Other than that, I don't worry about weird food phases.

I'm not a doctor, but if I crave something then I eat it. I have turkey with swiss cheese almost every single day and will until I don't want it any longer. It is to the point that family and friends have started to comment about my turkey obsession, but I really don't care. If I don't have fresh turkey, then I'll have the lunch meat turkey. I will even run through Arby's when out and get a Jr. Turkey with Swiss and then throw away the bun.

Eggs for me are kind of a binge buster. They are so filling that after eating them you just don't want anything else. I have 2 scrambled every morning before leaving for work and they hold me until lunchtime at 12:00 or 1:00. Very few things shut off the "I want to eat" voice in my head but somehow eggs do just that. They must be the perfect food if they can make the binge monster go away.

I had two fried eggs with bacon today and I have been dieing ( sp? lol... ) to have more!! LOL!! I ran out today but I will go and get some tomorrow after work when I get paid. I guess it's just coffee and sausage tomorrow morning for me!! But definitely eggs for dinner!! LOL....

Great post, Z!!

I'm totally trying that fried egg in the green pepper ring.

I find I lose best when I manage to eat eggs every day. Some days I eat 3 and some days its a dozen. My grocery store sells six.packs, sealed in sets of 2 of hard boiled eggs for $1.59. I always keep them on hand because its so easy to take 2 eggs anywhere like that.

When I have time to cook eggs, this is my favorite recipe:
Kagianas (Greek eggs and tomato) recipe - All recipes UK crumble some feta on it, you won't be disappointed.
Ingredients
Serves: 2

3 tablespoons olive oil
3 large, ripe tomatoes, pureed (about 500g)
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
6 large eggs, beaten
Preparation method
Prep: 5 mins | Cook: 25 mins
1.
In a large frying pan over medium high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the pureed tomatoes, along with the salt and pepper. Cook over medium high heat until all of the liquid has evaporated from the tomato mixture, about 10 to 15 minutes. (Turn up the heat to high if the liquid isn't evaporating.)
2.
Once the tomato mixture is 'dry', turn down the heat to medium and add the beaten eggs. Stir constantly at first to break up the egg, then frequently to allow the egg to cook through. The result should be a fairly dry mixture of similar consistency, i.e. no large chunks of egg. Enjoy hot or cold, though I must say I like this dish better the next day after having it in the fridge all night!
Cook's note

When tomatoes are out of season, use tinned whole plum tomatoes, pureed with their juice.

I re-discovered hard cooked eggs when I learned to steam them instead of "boil" them. SO much easier to cook, and easier to peel, too!

So now I steam a dozen or so each week. On rushed mornings I often mash one with some butter in a bowl and microwave on half-power (otherwise the white pops and makes a real mess) until warm, then eat with a spoon for my breakfast. I slice them into my salads or float them in my soup. I make egg salad for dinner or lunch. I eat them out of hand with salt. Whenever I start getting tired of hot cooked eggs, I turn to hard eggs.

I probably eat 1-2 eggs a day, over the course of a week.

I'm not a nutritionist or a doctor so take that in mind.

The only problem I see with eggs is that too many might aggravate arthritis or bursitis. They are high in arachidonic acid which can be inflammatory.

I had severe bursitis in my hip, cured about 75% by cutting out egg yolks and red meat fat - both high in A.A. Organ meats are also high in A.A. but I never liked liver anyway.

So if you don't have an inflammation problem, I suppose lots of eggs are OK.

I am going to have to give it a try.
I eat eggs every morning and sometimes for lunch.
Variety in the way they are prepared is important.

But I can always eat an other soft boiled egg with salt and butter!

I find that if I eat eggs for breakfast I am hungry all day. But, if I eat them later in the day I am fine.

I had an omelet & 2 slices of bacon for dinner and I am full.
