Your favorite protein shake?
So, there are times when I really am just not hungry, but a post workout protein shake would be a good idea to fuel my body. Just wondering what recipes everyone uses and/or types of mixes. I hate ones that taste real vitaminy.
Thanks for any recommendations. |

4 eggs
1/4 c HWC 1/3 to 1 cup trader joe's coconut milk in carton dash salt sweetener to taste 1/2 t vanilla cinnamon There's lots of room for varying flavors and amount of protein (this is still good with 3 or 5 egg, I'm just usually shooting for around 4 eggs worth of protein). |

I love some protein shakes. I have done tons of different kinds of them. My favorite is graham cracker flavor. I use ice, almond milk and 1 Tbs of peanut butter and 1 splenda for something that tastes better than a milk shake.
I also in the fruit category enjoy Nectar. I think the tropical fruit is my favorite b/c it has some coconut in the flavor. For those, I can just do ice and water but then I'll add a little crystal light to it in lemonade, cherry or something like that to improve flavor. I believe that the trick with any artificial sweetener is to blend flavors to make it taste really good, much like Coke Zero has done. I make some FABULOUS pancakes using protein powder instead of flour as well. I use banana for that one. Some things to add to a protein shake to make it fabulous are: SF Jello, Crystal Light ( or other sugar free drink mixes), cocoa, SF pudding, coffee (I like this with cookies and cream protein). |

i do this for an occasional treat, for obvious reasons:
frozen banana protein powder peanut butter cream dash of cinnamon i could use that whenever i wanted sans the banana, if i felt the need, but mostly i stick with whole food proteins. protein shakes are so deliciously creamy and good, i think i might get into trouble with them if i had them often. |

Matrix Mint Cookie is hands down the best protein shake I have found in a little over two years of drinking them.

I find that my protein shakes taste alot better using unsweetened plain almond milk. I hated them before and now I enjoy it. I love the chocolate one and to me it tastes like a fudgicle.

LCJunkie, if you drink coffee, use a little leftover cold coffee for the liquid (if you like mocha's).

The Dymatize Elite and ISO-100 protein powders are good. They mix well in just about anything. Lately I am having them warm in coffee or tea. Today I had the Gourmet Vanilla, added a splash of HWC, and a little cinnamon. Really pretty good.

Thanks, everyone. Lots of great advice. I'm definitely going to try some of these. They have the Jay Robb's that someone was talking about on another thread at my local Kroger, so I may start there and see how I like those with a few fresh berries mixed in, etc.

Netrition charges 4.95 delivery no matter the size of the order...this is usually how much I would spend in gas traveling to store to buy my supplies, so it's a wash on price as netrition is very competetive with their pricing. (and, no I don't work for them...just order from them a lot...haha)
They sell sample packs so you can try all the flavors also for most brands...good luck, and happy tasting! |

I like adding a scoop of Jay Robb Whey Vanilla protein into a cup of warm coffee. It's a nice treat in the morning when I can't stomach eating but know that I won't be able to eat for a very long time.

Diamond Deb posted some great protein shake recipes years ago, and one of the key ingredients that makes them wonderful for me is an ounce of cream cheese! It thickens the shake and makes it rich and creamy. Yummy!

I make this sometimes when the Atkins shakes or EAS shakes are on sale
1-Cafe Caramel latte Atkins shake or EAS Vanilla Shake 1-Splash of Torani sugar free Caramel or Hazelnot sugar fre syrup 2-Rounded teaspoons of Smucker's natural peanut butter (FYI: Ingredients should only say peanuts and salt) 1-oz of HWC 3-oz of Philadelphia cream cheese (Note: I think any other cream cheese affects the taste quality but to each their own) 1-rounded tablespoon of Folger's instant coffee (I use classic roast) [Note: If ypu prefer fresh brewed coffee then brew the night before and when cold freeze in ice tray and replace the ice cubes with the "coffe cubes"] 3-ice cubes Directions: Blend until all ingredients mixed through and shake should be creamy and thick (spoonable). This is sooo good trust me! _______________
