Grrrr... Weight Loss Ads...
Really, it's NOT just me hearing them more, they're INUNDATING the radio right now!!!
"Ladies, how much weight have you gained since you turned 40?" Um, NEGATIVE 45 lbs! "Do you need to lose more than 30 lbs?" Well, yes... But I'm not about to pay you "only $5 lb"! One offering to PAY me to try a sub-lingual form of HGC... And don't forget the doctor advertising "Medical weight-loss", and his competitor, offering weight-loss surgery... The list goes on and on... and I'd really just love to get through ONE commercial-break without one! I suppose this is all aggravated by the fact that I spent most of the day in the car, and thus listening to the radio. Sorry for the rant -- just driving me BONKERS for some reason! |

LOL, Tis the Season. I love the "Try this and the weight will just melt off."
But WAIT, if you order in the next 5 minutes not only will you get............:hyst: |
I cringe at the thought of how many of the programs/diets I have paid $ to in the past!
|
A couple of 'em might sound tempting... if the weight weren't ALREADY melting away. (OK, it is taking SOME effort -- constantly fiddling with what and how much I eat. BUT, I'm not eating chemical-food-substitutes, I'm not taking drugs, and I'm not hungry.)
|
A "MAGIC" pill would be nice, lol. My diabetic Aunt is always looking for one, I do NOT say a word!!! To each their own but you complain about your weight, not being able to do things because of your weight/diabeties but at the same time eating A VERY LARGE piece of cake:confused:!! I SAY nothing!!!

Every radio station I listen to on my commute in the morning is rife with weight loss ads. SENSA, ANYONE?
This is my first turn-of-the-year having absolutely zero weight to lose. It definitely changes the way that I view those types of bunk ads now. I used to feel guilty hearing them, but now I smile a little. Low carb is truly magical. ;) |
Weight Watchers constantly sends me promotional items trying to get me to join for free (only $13 or so a week forever because you'll never lose the weight and if you do you will have a heck of a time keeping it off.) WW might work for some but it never worked for me. I would lose the first week or two and then stall out. I'm sure because of the carbs.
What annoys me more than the ads is the lack of low carb choices in the store and the plethora of diet products that they claim are healthy but are laden with high fructose corn syrup. I shop the perimeters as much as possible, but I wish there were some healthier choices in things like precooked shrimp, hot wings, yogurt, etc. I get tired of cooking from scratch most of the time. |

Ha, ha - I was just steaming about this very thing yesterday. I find it about as irritating as nails on a chalkboard. I have to turn it off.
|
That is what I LOVE about Satellite radio no annoying weightloss commercials, no commercials of any kind as matter of fact!!! But the TV and Internet more than make up for it. LimeTwist - I die laughing every time I see the Sensa commercial with the marching band and they are singing "Shake Shake Shake - Shake Your Sensa" - I like them to Shake something alright LOL
I am right there with you on it being awesome not having weight loss be one of my New Years Resolutions this year :high5: Audrey |
My husband wants me to rejoin WW (I did lose weight but was ALWAYS hungry!), I've been stalling....I really wish WW had a low carb option or at least low glycemic. I know the points can be used for whatever food you like but high fat, low carb foods are among the highest points and you could literally go through a whole days points with 1 1/2 meals.
|
Becky - they are other people on the board that do low carb and weight watchers combined one of them is flatferenghi you might want to ask him about it. I know he has had success with it.

In general Im NOT a fan of diet commercials (if you paid me 4 million dollars Id lose weight too!) however Medifast had a new one out today with this lady talking to her thin self which kinda made me tear up alittle!
|
I think I saw this one. The "trouble" with it is that she had to record the "fat-self" portions before she lost the weight, and then do the "thin self" portions. Which means...~drum roll~ FAKE! It wasn't some gal's wonderful success that lead to her being used as a spokesmodel. Rather, some gal was paid lots of money to be at the two required sizes and film the commercial. And possibly (probably?) even filmed it backwards. (ie: was hired as the "thin self", and paid to gain the weight, then shoot the other half.)
Yes, I can relate to the feelings portrayed... but the ad itself is deceptive and manipulating. |
What satelite radio doesn't have commercials??? I listen to satelite all day and I am so sick of the commercials. Let me know what channel to put on!!!!
|
On my local talk radio station, they play an ad for hypnosis weight loss. I laugh and laugh.
|
Yes, it does seem to be worse than ever this year.

My favorites are the cereal commercials that claim you will lose if you eat a ton of their sugary junk.

People are fat because the food we eat at the grocery store isn't real food. It's got too much bad stuff (chemicals, sugar), and not enough good stuff (micronutrients, antioxidants, probiotics). The more I learn about what real food is, the more I come to see all food at the grocery store as Frankenfood. And then these diet companies see a big dollar opportunity to make money off of people unwittingly following the SAD (Standard American Diet). But they don't really want you to permanently lose weight and become healthy because if you did, you wouldn't need their product anymore. If you don't educate yourself about food, you're going to become a victim. |

I get the best of both - the structure of WW which I need otherwise my portions are too large and I don't lose and all the benefits of LC. |

I liked the structure and accountability of WW but was Always starving! |

Becky - That's what I've been trying - 32 daily plus the 49 weekly plus I allow myself any/all APs (using a HRM). But I've found I really don't need to use many of them due to the appetite control LC gives me. I've lost about the same regardless the amount of extra I use. YMMV.

I've been watching these commercials on TV... So duplicitous.
First off - the one with Jillian Barberie? Maybe Nutrisystem? Her before picture in the ad is a picture of her heavily PREGNANT!!!!! Yeah, so she lost some weight. So did I every time I went through labor. Secondly - Jessica Simpson? In the desert? (by the way, what is up with her speeding into the desert in a dusty pick up??? What is the message here??)... She is so camouflaged in that photo shoot. All of the "fat picture" tricks - dark top/bottoms, loose shirt over, belt to cinch the waist... Then, she climbs up on the back of the truck and drapes herself so the cab of the truck is blocking her stomach!!! Grrr. So hilarious. |

I havn't seen that JS one but will keep an eye out for it. I want to know what happened to Carrie Fisher with Nutri-Systems or whatever... |
