In the past I have been able to lose weight with eating LC but I do not do well keeping it off when a highly stressful situation comes along. Now I am using every tool available and feel like I am laying a good foundation to be successful with long term weight loss.
Awesome Job!

Any tips on how you went about working on the triggers? You truly are laying a great foundation!

Good on you.

@ Auntiem- I have been very strict with when I eat, so no snacking and I plan out my food on a tracker at the beginning of the day. When I am in a stressful situation or an emotional one I can feel the need to eat bubble up in me and my thoughts immediately turn to food. This is when I become aware of what is setting me off. I then just try and sit with the feelings and the urge to stuff my face knowing it is not food I want it is relief from the stress or not wanting to face my emotions. This is the hardest part now. It is especially hard if I am in the car and passing by drive thrus and restaurants and grocery stores. I have to constantly tell myself that if I eat off plan that it will only be momentary relief and I will feel worse for giving in. So I sit with the feelings and let them slowly pass by being busy, surfing, reading, posting or anything that helps the urge to eat subside. Once I no longer have the compulsion to eat I take a few minutes to let it register and to praise myself for getting through without caving to the compulsion and for dealing with my feelings directly.

hi, Frankie, congrats on your awesome achievement!

"sitting with it" is a wonderful tool. it makes us so strong to know that feelings, no matter what they are or how strong they are, will pass.

i also have an arsenal of self-soothing techniques. the "busy" ones are my favorites, cus they help put the stress hormones to good use, and i avoid that icky "stress hangover" feeling later. when i'm feeling really strong emotions, i will just pace around the house. when i'm more focused and more in control, i will go for a walk. one of my favorite things is to do the dishes. the warm water is comforting, and i have the bonus of a clean kitchen when i'm done. feeling good about that is a great antidote to stress.

i have been practicing awareness, "sitting with it," and active self-soothing with relation to emotional eating for almost two years now. together with acknowledging my refined carb addiction and cutting carbs, i have the most wonderful feelings of freedom from compulsion and control over my eating. it is so worth the time and effort it takes to get down to the sources of our unhealthy choices and root them out!

you are laying the foundations for optimal health from here on out, Frankie. you're rockin' it!
