Sugar Free beef jerky

Looking for SF beef jerky in the Dallas, TX area. Anyone know where I can find some? There is a great one that you can order online, but the shipping is so high unless you order a large amount.

Buffy, you could always make your own. I have done it in a very slow oven many yrs. ago.

Were you happy with how it turned out in a very slow oven, Cathy? I've considered buying a dehydrator just because it's so hard to find sugar free jerky in my area.

Thanks for the lead on ordering some, Tussah. The best I've been able to find was jerky sweetened by pineapple juice, from a Rhode Island farmer's market, and I doubt that's a whole lot better than sweetened with sugar.

Yes, I recall that I made it a couple of times and was pleased with the result. Wish I could offer a recipe but too long ago.

In the end I thought it was worth it to get a dehydrator. ALL the name brands in my area are pretty full of sugar. The lowest I can find is the plain Jack Links and it's 3 carbs per ounce. I like to get some bottom or top round, slice it thin, and marinate in water, honey substitute, a little worcestershire, and some spices. Then I dehydrate until I've got jerky. It's not hard per se, but it does take a cutting board, sharp knife, bowl for the marinade, and a lot of patience. Then you've got dirty dehydrator trays to contend with. They take up a lot of room, so they really need to be dealt with and put away, at least at my house. So, like everything else, it takes some investment of time and money. I wish there was a cheap low carb alternative, just like you. But I don't know of any.

I'm in the Dallas area too, and I'm always on the lookout for sugar-free jerkey. So far, haven't found any. I'm thinking of buying a dehydrator and making my own, as the dehydrator would pay for itself in just a few uses. Buying SF jerkey online is CAH-RAZY expensive!!! I saw some for $9 per OUNCE. Whaaaa..? I have no idea why it's so expensive...

I also noticed the online pricing was weirdly high, so buying a dehydrator makes sense, if you want to eat a substantial amount of jerky.

And, Vilya, congratulations on hitting the Century Club mark! That is so impressive!!!

I make jerky all the time in large amounts. Marinate lean ground beef in choice of seasonings over night and dehydrate 6-8 hours. Delicious. Yes, it's a pain to clean the trays but worth it.

I never found sugar free jerky anywhere. I gave up looking for any a long time ago. While I'd like to find some I don't want it bad enough to consider making my own.

Mmm. I might have to make some this weekend. It would be good to stow in my desk for emergency situations. (like the thursday donut box - I usually grab a handful of macadamia nuts.)

I don't eat enough of it to consider buying a dehydrator but it is so expensive and then the added insult of postage, grrr.

If you have a box fan and some paper heating system filters you can make your own crazy cheap dehydrator. Alton Brown came up with this idea--Google it.

After reading this thread, I made jerky this weekend. It turned out great! I used some SF honey, worstershire, soy sauce, and spices. Put it in my dehydrator, one of those round ones they sell at department stores. Followed a video on you tube, very helpful. Really easy and tasty.

I had never heard of that store, but found their website. There doesn't seem to be any nutrition information online. Is all their jerky sugar-free?
