Monkey fruit sweetener

I've been seeing this promoted, lately, and wanted to know what folks thought of it?

lol Yeah, that's probably the one.

I'm not huge on sweeteners in the first place, I'm just curious about it.

all this time, i was doing it wrong!

I always tied a small monkey to a string, and lowered him into a beveridge a few times! It seemed to work!!! Before you accuse me of animal cruelty, I trained him to hold his breath under water. I let him tie me to a string, and dip me into the liquid as well. We both dip well on the dance floor too with different partners of course. NOT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Personally, I haven't cared for any of the sweeteners that use monk fruit as a base or additive.
I know personal taste buds can really vary, so you may not notice the weird taste that I do.

Ferengi --

You mean that's NOT how it's done?

(I love how you always take yourself so seriously. Must be those lobes.)

Eh, maybe I'll give the sweetener a try. See if it passes the Hubby-test. As long as it's not throwing people's BS too far out of whack, maybe I can make "compromise goodies" using it... or a blend of it and stevia.

Flat: Have you seen the IKEA monkey?

I've seen Nectresse at Wallies..I wouldn't put it in a recipe before I tried it in tea or coffee..

He is a sweet little monkey..Darwin, who escaped from his cage in a car at Ikea and was found roaming around the parking lot..The woman had him illegally and he is in a sanctuary now..He had the cutest little coat on..I'll find a picture.

I have tried Nectresse. I had a coupon for it and got it for less than $1 so I figured why not! It isn't bad BUT I noticed a slight aftertaste in my coffee. It's not a bad taste just alters the taste of what you put it in. I don't think I'd use it for baking. I keep some in my desk drawer at work in case they run out of splenda at the coffee machine.

If there's an aftertaste then, no, hubby will never accept it.

He's not TRULY low-carb... Closer to a limited Paleo when he feels like it. lol But he knows this way is healthier. So I try to find ways to decrease sugar that are still palatable to him... so far, he's rejected just about everything I've tried, though found a splenda/stevia blend the LEAST objectionable of everything we've tried.

But he's morally opposed to artificial sweeteners -- not that I can blame him at ALL for that one!

I bought some Monk Fruit in the Raw packets and some liquid Monk Fruit To Go, neither of which have any other sweeteners. I like both of them. They have a good flavor and I don't notice any aftertaste. Nectresse is made with erythritol, sugar and molasses as well as the monk fruit so I refuse to try it (though I do have a free sample packet). I don't mind the erythritol but I don't want any sugar or molasses if I can help it. Netrition has a liquid NuNaturals Pure Liquid Lo Han Supreme which is another liquid lo han guo (monk fruit). I might try that sometime.

I have tried Nectresse in my coffee and I really like it. I did not get any type of an aftertaste from it. The only sweetener I use for cooking is splenda so I can't tell you how it works for that.

Just realized the Monk Fruit in the Raw I bought has dextrose as a filler. I guess I'll stick with the liquid stuff after the packets are gone.

It is possible to adapt to aftertates. It took me 6 months to finally like stevia, now I use it in everything. Of course it also depends on what form it is in powdered extract seemd to have the least after-taste.

See if you can get your husband to have just one stevia drink per day (rather then going stevia all the way), for 6 months, then see if he notices the aftertaste anymore.... baby steps

Well, he doesn't sweeten any drinks -- though he does like soda. (It's a bad habit he's working on breaking.)

Anything else that's sweetened... Yeah, he's not gonna try it if he "knows" it's got an aftertaste. I get maybe 3 shots, total, with a new sweetener with him. He's REALLY picky.
