Low carb fruits
Which fruits does every body eat
We have low carbed for over a year now and we want to start to build more fruit in to our diet. We currently just eat black/rasp/straw/blue berries and an occassional slice of water melon. Which fruits should we go for next? |

I have a half-grapefruit or a pitted fruit (apricot, plum, nectarine) with breakfast probably 3 times a week. Nice contrast with a meaty omelet.

Grapefruit is fine for me, as are plums, cherries, and other stone fruits. Berries, obviously, are great as well. It just depends on where you're at in your journey and how metabolically sensitive you are to fructose.

Sorry, the journey analogy works for me. A lifelong journey that ends in death, where all my choices along the way direct my path.
Black and bing cherries are quite high in carbs, but like grapefruit they do not cause cravings in me or any blood sugar issues. It is tropical fruits, in general, that tend to be starcher and higher carb. Bananas, mangos, pineapple, lychee, some circuses, etc. Personal tolerances are crucial in this sort of list Last edited by Arctic_Mama; 11-17-2012 at 10:09 AM.. |

The only fruits I like thankfully don't cause BG spikes for me and I eat them only when in season. I eat raspberries and sometimes strawberries and blueberries. I also like fresh figs and yuzu (don't like grapefruit much and prefer yuzu). I know fresh figs are higher in carbs but I can only ever eat 3-5 of them in a day and they haven't been a problem for me. I love figs with hard savory herbed cheese.

I mostly stick to berries (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries), with the occasional apple. Since I "restarted" about 3 weeks ago I'm being pretty strict and I'm not eating fruit at all. I've found that when I eat fruit, I want more fruit. It doesn't make me crave other carbs - just more fruit.

We are going to build some star fruit and apricots in to our diet.
They don't seem so bad carb wise. |

My brother just told me the other day that his wife who is French Canadian knows of a French saying: "eat fruit in the morning to give you an appetite" (something like that anyway) so maybe this is telling us something eh? The last thing I need right now is to have my appetite stimulated.

I'l usually have at least one apple daily. Sometimes I'll have two or three apples and an orange. But my woe does not limit fruit. |

I got cantaloupe back on Phase 2 of Atkins. I am a cantaloupe fiend. Love it and eat it and enjoy every bit of it.
and the usual ones everyone mentioned. I do stay away from higher fruits. Atkins gave me a fruit carb counter so I know which to avoid. |

I love raspberries! I wasn't even a big raspberry-eater before I started LC. I like blueberries too, but they are carbier (half a cup has NINE carbs!). Raspberries are 3,5 per half cup.

I'd have to check, but I believe a kiwi (only) has ten carbs... I mainly stick to blueberries and strawberries, with an occasional serving of raspberries. Yum to all of it!
