It's not recommended, but if you drink it, drink 1 and count it as 1 carb (as with all fake sweetners).

I drink diet Coke or Pepsi every day (about 1 a day). It doesn't seem to impact my blood sugar or weight loss. That may change as time goes on, but for now it gets me through some days. I have heard some people say it throws them out of ketosis and stalls them, though.

I drink way way way too many diet sodas!! But I haven't had any problems with losing. I have only been back on plan (after being off... a very long time) for a little over a month!! I like diet sunkist, diet rootbeer and if I can't have those then I will settle for diet coke or any diet soda. LOL!! My favorites are Diet Sunkist and Diet Rootbeer. It may slow my weight loss down though after a little while. I also have heard a lot of people say it slows down their weight loss or stalls them.

As a dessert, especially at a restaurant when everyone else is eating pizza and I'm eating a big Greek salad, it can go a long way to making me feel normal and indulgent instead of deprived. And I still enjoy a diet dr pepper once or twice a week, I'd say.

It hasn't seemed to be an issue for me, but I confess I can't see the scale move right now anyway, so I wouldn't know if my coffee or SF torani or occasional diet soda is stalling me or not because I keep gaining more baby each week, which would mask any scale drop!

But generally unless they prove to be a problem to you the occasional artificial sweetened drink is okay. Make the bulk of your diet real food and keep the 'junk', even diet junk, to a minimum, and you should be just fine

WOE: Atkins for first 65 pounds, then HCG
Start Date: Nov 1, 2011
Lost 65 of the pounds I lost on Atkins while drinking a HUGE amount of cherry coke zero (too many!! - I'd say 12 a day?) Then I stalled. For months. Couldn't get the scale to move at all, wasn't cheating but it just would not budge. I do not know if the stall was related to the coke. But it did not seem to affect me for those first 65 pounds.

When I changed to hcg, I got off the coke - I do drink it during the maintenance part but nowhere near the number I used to. It is not affecting my maintaining at all.

hCG is human chorionic gonadotropin, and is a hormone administered in relation to a medical protocol for the metabolic causes of obesity. We have a board here on LowCarbFriends for the hCG protocol, and the information on the protocol is there. The manuscript with the accurate information relating to the protocol is "Pounds and Inches" by ATE Simeons, and the plan cannot be successfully undertaken without a very thorough understanding of that manuscript.

And that's a quick intro. As I said, the board would be a good place to go for that information, as well as some other places online like the hCGDieters mailing list on Yahoo.

I agree with most here that Coke Zero and other diet soda's don't impact my weightloss. I love Coke Zero the most, when I'm in deep ketosis I don't crave it as much but usually still have one with dinner. I used to drink 3 or 4+ a day and still lost weight (lots of water also though).

All I drink are artificially sweetened beverages, primarily Cherry Coke Zero, and Lipton Mixed Berry Diet Green Tea. Both are sweetened with a combination of Aspartame, and Acesulfame potassium (A.K.A. "Ace-K").

The label says zero carbs, I count it as zero carbs.

Powdered Splenda in coffee, on the other hand counts against my total, because of carbs on the label, and maltodextrin which I don't trust as being not a carb. That said, it's significantly fewer carbs than the three or four packets of sugar I used to use.

So far, I'm down 26.6 pounds, losing about 4-5 lbs per week when I stay on plan.

I think you'll be ok.

I gave up all drinks but water for Lent last year. That was hard! I love my diet Dr. Pepper. I allow myself one a day for now. Someday, I will give them up because I don't believe that diet soda is good for you. Not that it will stall weight loss, just all those chemicals!

I had to give up crack zero because for some reason, drinking one makes me want to drink them all day. It did seem like drinking three or four a day did hinder my weight loss somewhat. Now I have one diet root beer almost every day with heavy whipping cream in it. Someone mentioned vanilla coke zero though, and I may have to try that!

Oh yeah, and to answer the OP's questions, Atkins does allow zero calorie beverages.

Got this off the Pepsi website: Ingredients for Pepsi Max

CARBONATED WATER, CARAMEL COLOR, PHOSPHORIC ACID, ASPARTAME, POTASSIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVES FRESHNESS), CAFFEINE, NATURAL FLAVOR, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, CITRIC ACID, CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (TO PROTECT FLAVOR), PANAX GINSENG EXTRACT

It appears Pepsi Max has Aspartame in it...
