Pork Rinds Expiration Confusion

Hey guys, quick question about pork rinds. I read on here that they will go rancid within a couple of weeks if left out at room temperature. Yesterday, I bought a few bags at Wal-Mart and they all say "best if used before Nov. 2013".

Is that only if I freeze them? Or only if I don't open them?

I plan to open them and put them in Lock & Lock. Does that help keep them fresh?

Thanks!

Actually, I misunderstood what my father said. They actually say "sell by 02/02/2013" which still is confusing.

i never had a problem with pork rinds.

i have at least 6 bags of them in my pantry. they have been there for months. I have cut way down, owing to the sodium. I just remembered they were there thanks to this thread. We do not know how long they were sitting in the supermarket shelves. I would just say, keep them tightly sealed after opening the pack, and they should be fine. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

Just dont expose them to air as they tend to soften and pick up other flavors. I usually buy large bags and separate them into single servings in zip loc bags with no problems other than people stealing them!

So basically, if I open them and put them in Lock & Lock containers (essentially a better version of Tupperware) they should last a while? Approximately how long: Weeks? Months?

Being as they are animal products i wouldnt keep them opened longer than two weeks, as they do tend to get stale once opened.

However if they are not opened, they're fine for a few months?

I've never used those containers, I think once something is opened you have maybe a week....I wouldn't open anything and use it months later.

I can't say for sure about pork rinds, but for some meat snacks like jerky, they fill the bag with carbon dioxide before they seal it to push out the oxygen. (Bacteria love oxygen). So if you open them and put them in another container, you would be exposing them to oxygen and that may make them go bad or stale quicker.
Just a thought.
