Low Carb Bagels

so I saw someone mention LC bagels. huh?
I went in search of them.

this is what I found.

Healthwise Bakery Zero Net Carb Everything Serving size: 1 oz, 1/2 bagel
Servings per container: 12
Bagels per container: 6
Calories: 40
Total Fat: 0g
Total Carbs: 7g
Dietary Fiber: 7g
Sugars: 0g
Protein: 6g
Ingredients

Oat Fiber, Wheat Gluten, Water, Soy Protein, Corn Starch, Soy Flour, Fiber Extract, Vegtable Oil, Rye Flour, Splenda, Salt, Yeast, Malted Barley Extract, Dough Conditioner, Calcium, Spices, Garlic, poppy Seeds, sesame seeds

-----------------

OK THESE are 0 carbs right? subtract 7 fiber from the carbs and that comes out to 0.

anyone try these?

I mean 0 carbs and I get a bagel. Wonder if it takes like wood or tree bark or something?

Just the thought of having a 0 carb bagel blows my mind.
I had no idea that SO MANY LC products were out there to buy.

Any info on the product would help me. thanks so much.

Don't believe it. There's no way that those have zero carbs.

They taste awful, but in my opinion so does their bread. I like carb krunchers much better. Had to give up on all the per-made bread because they make me gain. I really like making my own much better. Hope that helps.

off to read up on the Carb Krunchers bagels.

if you like them then they must be 'kinda' real tasting? thanks

I bet with this type of item, everyone will vary on what brand they can handle. I guess experiments with a few items to find the one I most enjoy will be the way I have to go.

I 'foresee' alot of money going down the road into LC products for tasting

I am one of those people who struggles when boiling water; so making my own is not gonna happen.

I am hopeful that someday "decent store bought products" are in our future!

LOL I am right there with you. Not a baker or barely a 'real' cook. To make my own 'anything' wouldn't interest me mostly either. If pushed, yea, but I am not pushed just yet

Karb Krunchers breads and bagels are great....the bread is great for sandwiches, french toast, stuffing, etc... the bagels are just as good...I wouldn't say the taste like bagels we all love, but they make a great vehicle for cream cheese, peanut butter and jelly....I take the bread and wrap two at a time in Press and Seal plastic wrap and freeze them. I just grab and go, and by lunch time they are defrosted and ready for whatever. If I need them right away, I leave them in the plastic wrap and defrost in micro for a couple of seconds and let them rest a few moments. Really good. Just wanted to mention, the bagels have to be toasted. Also, I bought the hamburger and hotdog buns and enden up toasted all of them in the oven for bread crumbs because they were huge, too big for any hotdog....too much bread, did not taste good.

Hopefully these work out for you guys though.

That's exactly how I feel. I see a lot of effort expended to recreate high carb foods and wonder if that is the reason a lot of people fall off the wagon. Maybe they haven't moved past their craving for carbs yet.

Of course, a substitute might come in handy once in a while, and I have gotten some awesome bread and dessert recipes from this site - you guys rock! , but honestly, I can look at regular bread, candy and desserts and feel no desire for it at all.

Maybe I'm just weird. LOL!

for me, I want to have options in my life. It isn't real thinking I will never ever ever eat a piece of bread again. I will. If I say I will never eat a piece of bread again in my entire life I know for a fact it is a lie

I am not one of those who can be a diehard and give up ALL entire food groups for life.

But I guess best I can do is find the ones that fit easily into a low carb plan.

Not a pasta fan so truthfully I can never eat pasta again in my life and never miss it. But so many buy that Dreamfields who are low carbing because it is something they know they want in their menu. Somthing they can't give up for life, so they find that best option to include it.

for me it will be some type of the best bread I can find to fill a gap.

This is where everyone has to find their own way thru the menu maze for a lifetime.

Well the zero carb bagels are still en route, but I did received the 4 net carb 'everything' bagels. I really enjoy them - they are huge, tasty and the texture is OK. The cost was a little high, $7.99 for 6 bagels - but I felt they were worth it.

I need to get some of these to test the weight loss effect. I've been wanting to try them for years, but haven't. Maybe in a few weeks.

You look lovely in your new avatar, Ms. Woods.

Sorry to get off topic there. I just use raw veggies and flax crackers as my bread substitutes to hold spreads, etc.

That ingredient list has a couple dealbreakers for me.

It's not exactly the same thing, but you can always get a donut mold and bake something with nut/seed flour in it.

Well the zero net carb bagels arrived and I had one this morning for breakfast. The texture was right on, a little crunch on the outside (after toasting) and soft and chewy on the inside. I bought the cinnamon flavor - a little blah - but slathering it with butter made it A-OK! This one was not as big as the 4 net carb bagel.

So I was searching lc breads and bagels and I see one I haven't seen before. It's called MiRico. Says it's lab tested and verified, for whatever that's worth. Anyone have any experience with it? Says 2 slices of bread (sesame, regular has 116 calories) have 125 calories and 6g carbs, 4g fiber, so 2 net carbs. That sounds waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too good to be true.

they may be small slices, Ms. Woods

I get my lc bread from a local bakery that specializes in sugar free AND lc items. (they also have plenty of the regular stuff too, of course). I have been using their lc products for several years(during THOSE times when i was being "good".)the slices are quite small. everything I put between those slices sticks out, but who cares? they complement a 5 Guys cheeseburger etc so well. anyway, 2 slices is 3 net grams. they do not lie. the owner's mom is diabetic. SOMETIMES, the #s on the nutritional panel ARE true. If not, that is why the Gods created lawyers. FF

I looked at the picture of the bread loaves, sliced, and they look like regular size slices. I do think I'm going to order some and try. You get 3 loaves per order for about $20.

tandt I really appreciate your posting about the 4 carb everything and the 0 carb. I am definitely getting the 0 carb. SLATHER in butter part got me right there, and if I EVER want a piece of toasted bread with dinner for some reason, I will use 1/2 a bagel. will work for me.

Since I am not a heavy bread eater before I started Atkins, I will freeze them and use sparingly.

but it is so good to hear I have options. thanks for your posts and review!!!

Yes, I also ordered a loaf of their bread - very good. This was the maker of the 4 carb bagels too. (I had a little spending spree and bought a bunch of stuff to try.)

I have not been disappointed - but I am sure most of that comes from not having this food group in over a year.
