How long does it take to leave ketosis?

Sorry for all these threads lately, I'm preparing to make some big changes. So I have yet to not turn a ketone stick pink, so I decided to see how much I can get away with, and was curious how long I should wait to test to see if I'm still in/out of ketosis. Also just because the stick changes color that doesn't mean there's a 100% chance that your in ketosis or does it?

In my experience, you leave it instantly... And you feel like CRAP when it happens. I don't need the stick to tell me I've over-done it: My body does, first!

It seems to be pretty instant for me too. I can tell because my teeth feel gritty instead of smooth.

Any idea how long it takes to show up on a ketone strip, and if that would give accurate results?

I have read that the ketone test strips that you pee on are two hours behind the finger stick ones.

I don't think that every deviation from plan immediately knocks me out but I've never tried to test that. I'd love to know the answer, though. There might be some info at Dr. Attia's blog. I know he has experimented with something close.

Some people never turn the sticks colors. It has a lot to do with hydration and other factors. If you really want to know, get the finger stick type or go by how you feel. I can always tell if I am in ketosis.

My brother has been low-carb for 9 or 10 years now, and he's very keto-adapted. He says that one cheat meal will not knock him out of ketosis at all, but an entire cheat day will (so he doesn't do the latter at all any more). For someone whose system is not as adapted to low-carb, though, one meal might be a bit more dangerous. I'm not sure. I've learned that I can't cheat - one cheat meal will knock me out of ketosis because one cheat meal turns into one cheat month!

I can't always tell when I'm IN, but I can sure tell when I'm OUT!! Hoo-boy, not a good feeling.

Hmm, I have days were I eat close to 0 carbs, but don't feel good and other days I'm pushing 20-30 and feel great. Regardless my keto sticks always change color, does that mean I'm in ketosis? Testing 6 times a day for a week, because I'm adding more carbs, soy, ketones, creatine, seeds/nuts and gnc sport vita-packs. I know I'm paranoid lol
