So, if the medicine is making you hungry then, for you in this situation, I think protein is more appropriate for the reasons I gave in the original post.

For example, that day you got to 2000 calories with 200g Fat and 140g Protein....

You could have eaten 280g of protein, twice as much as 140g!, for 1120 calories versus the 1800! calories you ate with 200g of Fat.

Now, look at that from a quantity perspective. 280g of protein from a moderate protein source is ... ... ... ... 46 OUNCES of meat!!! Wow! And that is eating the whole 280g which is pretty unlikely I'd say. Even if you did you'd still clock in about 700 calories less!

To be clear, it is only because of the artificial appetite resulting from the medicine. If it weren't for that situation then my suggestion would be insane.

If the medicine doesn't make you hungry then it is business as usual.

WOW that really puts things into perspective!!! I totally get what you were sayin now.

Thanks so much for the info

I'm going to go eat 46oz of meat
Hahah Juuust kidding

Another point of general clarification not directed towards alizgurl and her situation.

Although there are probably some people that could eat a high protein high/moderate fat low carb plan it is going to be a huge failure for most people. So, don't let my post about conserving calories by eating extra protein lead you down this path of failure - it is specifically about *this* medicine situation.

Excess protein in that situation is going to generally stall you, cause a weight gain or cause increased appetite which results in increased calorie consumption because of the excess protein being converted, essentially, to sugar (I think).

Red, I was reading alot on the new NK thread you started and before I post there I was wondering if you could look at my menu to see if it looks alright for NK? I've been following the 80/15/5 pretty well I think but couldn't find a calculator online.

This is my menu today, I sometimes eat more, but when I plan out my meals for the day it really helps me.

B-coffee HWC CO and splenda
L-2 cup romain, Marie's caesar, 6oz grilled chicken breast
D-2 butchers cut hamburger patties maybe with cheese? couple broccoli flowerets.
S-1/4c Macadamia nuts

calories 1500
fat 137
protein 58
total carbs 11

Pretty excellent I think.

Two observations from what I've learned recently:

Your calories are too low at 1500. Bump them to 1700 at least and really they should be closer to 1900. Even if it means a temporary gain in weight until your metabolism stabilizes. You can always go down in calories after a couple of weeks of acclimation.

It is probably worthwhile to start a bit higher on protein

Starting from the formula from the other NK thread your protein target would be 69g:

Calories: 1934

Protein grams: 69
Fat grams: 174
Carb grams: 23

...and adjust your fat down a little if you want to go a little lower on the calories. These numbers are close to 80/15/5 so you could easily be in the 1800 range for calories and still have 70%+ fat as a ratio.

Thanks so much!!
I shouldn't have a problem upping my cals, I've actually been kinda hungry while trying to keep them lower.

I got a 7 day report from my app and I'm happy I can go up a little on fat and cals

My average from last 7 days...
cals 1593
pro 72
fat 135
net carb 21

adding in a fat bomb should help, and I'd have no problem doing that! Yum

I'll start posting on the NK thread soon if that's ok

Ah that is good! Most people are shocked about suggesting an increase in calories lol.

Sure, come on over!

The problem might include wanting more carbs, but what about when you are super low carb and you completely stall? this happens all the time with this drug. has nothing to do with eating or craving. I did low carb low cal and didnt lose anything!!!

I've had 2 back surgeries and the last one left me worse than I started. After a few difficult years, 40 lbs, and a wonderful pain specialist, I finally have my life back. I'm on several drugs and a few of them are known to cause weight gain. Every lb. I lose is a major accomplishment! But at least I feel like I'm trying and when I get discouraged I tell myself that is what really counts. Sometimes when things are out of your control, taking some control is important.
