Best Sweetener

Wondering what y'all use to sweeten things needing some sweetness. I'm not crazy about Splenda because of the bad press it's gotten and not real crazy about its taste anyway. Do any of you use Stevia? Is it an acceptable sweetener? Any other ideas?

I love Stevia. I have used powdered to sweeten applesauce, and is great. I have not been brave enough to try substituting in recipes, because a lot of sweet with no volume. I have liquid for my tea and coffee.

I use liquid Stevia in recipes. I don't really drink anything but water so never tried it in coffee or tea or anything like that.

Don't tell anyone but I put a 1/2 tsp of actual sugar in my one cup of coffee each morning. Didnt like the aftertaste of stevia or Splenda.

For baking, like most of the people on this board, I like a combo of sweeteners. My preferred trio is: erythritol, Splenda and stevia. For a 1/2 cup equiv to sugar you would use: 4 pkts Stevia, 4 pkts Splenda, 4 TBS erythritol.

I was super reluctant to buy the erythritol because that seemed a little too chemistry-lab. Also I had to order it on the Internet. Later I found out they do sometimes sell this in those groovy health food stores. But it really made all the difference.

I don't like Stevia or Truvia, both have a bad aftertaste to me. I use Splenda or Ez Sweetz.

I think it all depends on the person and what you are doing with it. No one is perfect...
I like stevia in my coffee and tea (if im in the mood for it sweet). If im going on strict paleo/primal I won't use them.
When I'm paleo/primal I will use Honey, Grade B maple syrup, or black strap molassis. (but these are not very low carb)
My kids love these things though! which is a plus!

When im eating more low carb I stick with the stevia.. Now if only places like dunkin donuts, and starbucks would pick them up! If all else fails and I need an artifical sweetner I stick to Splenda...

Same here I stay away from packets as they contain dextrose.

I use splenda. I drink a lot of decaf tea and so far it's tasted the best to me.

Wow! Thanks for all you're great replies! I just ordered some Stevia from Netrition. I don't do a lot of sweet things and have even learned to drink my coffee with only cream but once in awhile a little shot of sweet in what I'm cooking/baking is nice.

I love this board! You're all so helpful and encouraging.
