My experience w/ coconut oil this week

I wanted to share my experience w/CO since I know there are lots of questions about using CO. This is about the 6th time I've dieted low carb. The first was in 2001 and I lost from 200 down to 150. I regained some of the weight (most actually) and would diet for short periods of time. Well, fast forward to this summer. I weighed about 175 when I started low carbing - mainly because my blood sugars were so high. I have been losing slowly - recently it's been about a pound a week.

I started using 1 tbsp of CO in my coffee - kind of hit or miss. Except that this week, I began using 2tbsp of CO in my coffee every day. I normally weigh pn Monday. This Monday I weighed 149.2. I weighed this morning (Friday) and weigh 146.6!!! I don't know if I was due a woosh or if upping the fat in my diet caused the loss. Whatever it is, I'll take it!:)

Awesome! Congrats on the loss! I've just started cooking with it (I've always used it as a moisturizer for my skin!) but I can't bring myself to eat it straight. I've licked the spoon before and it just grossed me out. Whatever you're doing, keep up the good work! :)

princessmommy 09-14-2012 04:42 PM

Awesome! I don't like the taste frying with it but if it'll help me i'll start putting it in my coffee!

marieze 09-14-2012 04:57 PM

I have no doubt that my losing 9 pounds in 14 days is in part attributed to CO. I don't know what brand you guys are using, but the Nutiva from netrition I could eat with a spoon! Just like most of the reviewers said:love:

Shelly, are you using the refined type to cook with? The refined type I use, LouAnn, has no taste at all that I can detect either cooking or straight off the spoon.

floridagirl6 09-14-2012 05:30 PM

I use Nutiva CO

HappyHappyJoyJoy 09-14-2012 05:31 PM

Woo hoo!! That is awesome!!:jumpjoy::jumpjoy::jumpjoy:

I'm running for my coconut oil right now...LOL!

Put CO in my coffee this morning! I love it, the smell especially.

sya_unit 09-14-2012 06:29 PM

Funny, I usually have a bit everyday, but not that much. I might have to up it to see if it helps. Great job!!

picklepete 09-14-2012 08:37 PM

I use it for roasting nuts, but somehow I doubt it cancels out the obscene quantity of nuts I end up eating. :p

VivaaLaCarlos 09-14-2012 11:07 PM

i used refined to cook with. organic co is for cooking something sweet like pancakes, i also eat it straight off the spoon and for other things like my hair and skin. my favorite oil!!

DeltaSierra 09-14-2012 11:51 PM

I use Nutiva too and its awesome. My current favorite way to use it is to mix it with a bit of Crystal Light and freeze it- it turns into an almost-candy that way :)

clanger 09-15-2012 12:27 AM

Really interesting results, floridagirl6 :) - congrats on your loss and thanks for sharing it!

DeltaSierra - that's a really imaginitive recipe - I haven't seen that one before!

That's exactly what I've done . I'd like to say that it's was like an unsweetened version of 'coconut ice' we used to make as kids. It was actually like was eating a big blob of fat that tastes a bit like cococnut . Fancy that!

It wasn't that bad, but then again I could eat butter off a spoon as well (salted - yum!).

I think I'm going to investigate these 'fat bombs' folk seem to be talking about at the moment, but even 'neat' I didn't find the coconut oil too bad. Not compared to the gross tasting B-vitamin I nearly choke to dealth on each morning anyway !

No, I have the evco from Trader Joes. I tried to saute some shrimp and chicken in it and it had a Strong coconut taste which overpowered the taste of the food. I'll try it Right now in my coffee to see if it'll help cause i'm back to bouncing up and down weight wise and would Love to get Below 167! Thanks!

OK I have done the last 3 days and I am down 1 1/2 which for me is REALLY HARD! I'm so excited if this keeps up I will hit my goal without a problem.... YEAH!

Thought I'd add my experience this week. I usually have 1tbsp of CO in my coffee twice a day, but this week I upped it to 4 times in the day so essentially I had 4tbsp of CO a day. I was worried about the added calories - not that I usually count calories. I had been consistently losing 1lb a week, but was pleasantly surprised to see that I lost 2lbs this week.

I think I may continue with this amount and see how it goes.

Great results! I wonder if butter would work as well? I bought coconut oil (and flour) and it turns out I am very allergic to it. I bought some Kerry gold unsalted butter to try instead but I am afraid to gain.

Butter doesn't have the same qualities as CO but you can get extra fat in by putting it in your coffee.

Maybe get some MCT oil? As far as I know it is tasteless and it is a lot of what is good about CO.

Butter and MCT coffee is called Bulletproof Coffee. Google 'how-to-make-your-coffee-bulletproof-and-your-morning-too' for the recipe. I haven't tried it so I don't know what it taste like.

floridagirl6 09-17-2012 05:16 AM

Official weight as of this morning - 145.6. Just under 4 pounds for the week. The only change was upping my CO to 2 tbspns.

clanger 09-17-2012 01:11 PM

Wow, very impressive, floridagirl6, great news!!! Thanks for posting back with an update - it's really encouraging for everyone else :-)

Wonderful to hear :jumpjoy::jumpjoy: Congratulations!!

canadiangirl 09-17-2012 06:20 PM

Those are great results!! I have started working out more often and have been gaining a bit likely due to extra calories I am using up so I am going to try this for sure. Not to mention it is great for any digestion issues that one may have!

Butter is one of the foods that has MCTs too, but not as much as coconut oil.

If you want to do the experiment, you really should get some coconut oil. The MCT quantity per tablespoon of consumed fat will be greater.

It's like a cool science experiment!

You get an A+ :)

I don't drink coffee but in the winter I drink hot tea with coconut oil and HWC and davinci. I find it gives me more energy and curbs my appetite. I've been more hungry lately so I think I may start back up again! Congrats on your loss.
