Finally Made It Through Induction

I've done "low carb" or "Atkins" about a bajillion times since 2004. Normally by day 5 or 6, I begin to tweak (add in some nuts or fruit), falter with way too much dairy, or flat give up and fall face first into the nearest bowl of chips! I could never make it through a clean induction!

Finally, after a year of yo-yoing on my HCG-esque plan from 185 up to 210 and everywhere in between, I said enough is enough.

I realized I could either continue with gaining and losing the same 20 pounds or I could commit to something I could actually maintain for life. I don't expect to lose 20 pounds in a month on Atkins (like I did with HCG) but I will lose. If I stick with it.

So, finally, a little over two weeks ago, I did a clean induction. Two weeks of meat, eggs, fat, and a small bit of veggies and salad. No cheats. No gray areas. I did it.

I lost 9 pounds. In two weeks.

I ended my official induction last Saturday yet stayed on plan throughout the holiday weekend with the exception of a couple glasses of red wine. I said NO to birthday cake, sweet barbeque sauce covered meats, and ice cream. I said YES to steak, green salad, and deviled eggs and it was wonderful.

I didn't lose more over the weekend (thanks to the wine I'm sure) but I also didn't gain....and I always gain over a holiday.

Today, I'm back at it with clean meats, fats, and veggies as needed.

I don't know if I'll stall after this initial 9 pound loss or progress steadily.
I do know my joint pain is gone, my cravings are (mostly) gone, and I have my energy back. I know my clothes fit again and that I have a workable plan to get into smaller ones.

I've "tried" to do Atkins 4,294+ times and failed. For some reason this time, it stuck.

Now, I can't wait to see where I'll be by January.

I can't predict my monthly losses anymore than I can predict the weather but I would really like to see 180 by the end of the year.

That would give me a full 100 pounds of loss.

I'm writing this because I struggled with it so many times and never completed a clean induction. I never gave Atkins a real chance.

I'm so glad I finally did. I'm down to my last 40 pounds and I need to lose it in a way I can maintain for life. I think Atkins is it.

Congratulations, FitMommyNow. I think you should print out your own post and put it up somewhere (maybe on the refrigerator door?) to inspire yourself to stay on track. Next time you think about going off plan, remind yourself of the good things like "my joint pain is gone, my cravings are (mostly) gone, and I have my energy back." I hope that remembering those things will help you stay on plan in future and get to your final goal--and then stay there.

Thanks!

I think it helped that my husband is low carb now. He has ZERO weight issues but found low carb helps him athletically as a long distance runner. He watches lectures by Taubes, Sisson, Attia, etc now instead of carb loading.
He completed his first 50 miler this summer and placed 5th overall and 1st in his age group while drinking fatty canned coconut milk and eating almonds throughout the race.
