You're welcome! I spent hours on the internet trying to find referrals in Seattle so it's nice to be able to help out a fellow Seattlite.

I've been using the keytostrips but am having the NovaMax FedExed to me right away! I am going to check the NovaMax first and then go to a naturopath if I plateau again. I've tracked my food for a few days and have been in the 70%/26%/5% range so I think I am good, but maybe I need to up the fat and drop the protein just a bit more. I tend to have my coconut oil in a protein shake 2x a day so that could be the problem. I am definitely in the .6 to 1g per lb of LBM range but my calories tend to hover around 2k so maybe they are too high.
I think that you'll find that most of us on the nutritional ketosis thread were expert at controlling carbs, but getting the protein right is the key. Most have to stay at or below the .6 per lb of LBM to see results. You are a young man so that may change the equation.

I will keep at it and greatly appreciate the referrals. I can't wait to finish catching up on the other thread too!
Good luck with those last 10 pounds! Hopefully you'll find some good advice to get you there in the other thread.

I was up until 1:30am reading the nutritional ketosis thread! So much information and so much that I need to go back and reread. I wish I lived in Seattle so I could see your naturopath and endocrinologist. I'm hypothyroid and it's so hard to find a good endocrinologist. I also work out with kettlebells and was happy to find another "swinger."

Wow, this is fantastic to read. You look great! I have been stuck at 175-185 for the last 2 years despite ridiculous amounts of exercise including just finishing an Ironman this last weekend.

I need to learn more about this "Nutritional Ketosis" that you mentioned. Links?

Thank you!

There is a link to the Nutritional Ketosis thread here on LCF in my signature--it's long but there is a lot of information there (come on over and join us)! Jimmy Moore has also had several posts about it on his blog and an interview with Stephen Phinney last week that is posted on his blog. The Stephen Phinney interview might be of interest especially in regards to "ridiculous amounts of exercise." The two books that Phinney and Volek wrote, The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living and The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance are kind of the reference for of all of this (Performance more than Living). But there's plenty of information in the thread to get started (most of the important parts of the books are discussed).

Yeah--another kettlebeller!! My DH and I are completely hooked. I started doing it to rehab my back and get back into shape after a year of not being able to exercise because of the pain. We have an Rkc studio very close to us and the trainers there are awesome.

Do you like your thyroid doctor? I fired two before I found the two that I'm seeing now.

Not crazy about my thyroid doc, but he's the only one around who is willing to prescribe Armour Thyroid and the only one not 100% hung up on going by TSH only. I got his name from Mary Shoman's site.

I wish I had an RKC studio nearby. I'd have to drive at least an hour to get to one. I work out with videos, but I'd love to take personal instruction to perfect my moves, especially the snatch! It's amazing what a great workout you can get in 20-30 minutes or so.

That's probably better than 99% of the doctors out there! Sadly most of them seem to love T4 only and can't see past TSH.

Congratulations!!

You look incredible - so beautiful! You are radiating great health!! You seriously look way younger in the final picture than the starting picture.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I have 19 more pounds to go and I'm a little worried it could get bumpy. After reading Jimmy Moore's blog posts and the books he recommended, I have added more fat into my program which has really helped. But your post really highlights why it's so important. Thank you for pointing out that perhaps the fat level doesn't need to be 85%, which is difficult to manage day in-day out.

HUGS!!

Thank you so much! I try to think back to that time and I was a very unhappy person which I think shows in the (few) pictures that I have of myself. My life has changed so much since my initial loss--some of it very difficult (divorce), but so much for the better!

Bravo! Sometimes a little break and some tweaking is what it takes to bust a plateau and get lower. You've done marvelously at maintaining!

I actually saw two. The first one didn't work out.

After my first failed ND (from a local thyroid yahoo group) I got names from Thyroid boards and the Natural Thyroid Hormone yahoo group. I also asked all of my friends and then started talking to NDs. I especially wanted someone who was an expert at hormones and thyroid since that seemed to be my issue.
