Drinking too much liquid?

I am always thirsty. I drink all day long- I started writing it down everyday, on average, this is what it is:
4, 16 oz bottles plain water
2 large glasses of ice tea
4 Diet Sodas- light colored
1, 20 oz vitamin water

How much does everyone else drink of liquid? I think this sounds excessive- some days it is even more. I am always in the bathroom

Wow! That's a lot!

My husband calls me a camel. I can go all day with almost nothing to drink - usually happens when I am busy at work and I just don't think about it! On an average day I drink 4-6oz coffee, 12-16oz water. If I go out to a restaurant, I will drink another 12-16oz iced tea. That's about it. Of course, some days are more, some days, maybe less...

I think the more I drink the more thirsty I become. I thought I also read somewhere, don't hold me to this, that when you are in ketosis, you are also more thirsty???

I would guess I drink anywhere from 24 to 32 oz per day, between tea, water and iced tea (all unsweetened).

When I drink more than that, I'm the bathroom all day, which I hate. I think if I were home during the day, I might drink more.

Remykins, your fluid intake doesn't seem high to me. Some of what you drink needs water to flush out the unhealthy substances in tea and sodas.

Hot weather, stress, and exercise easily put my water intake at almost the same levels of your fluid intake.

Most days, this summer, I am drinking approx. 144 ounces.

I have the problem of not drinking enough (total change from a year ago ) so to make sure I get more than enough, I fill a one gallon container with icy cold water and drink all day. As long as I know that container is there, I will try to finish it. Sometimes I will have some tea and occasionally a soda, but I try to not drink more than one in a day. So I drink quite a bit all day.

Needing to drink a lot can be a symptom of diabetes. I hate to say it, but you should check with your doctor.

That said, I drink 2-3L per day, on average. I try to drink before I feel "thirsty" b/c by then, you're starting dehydration. I don't just drink plain water, though I do drink that... I drink green iced tea, water with mio, with crystal light, etc. But often, just water.

Anyhoo-- if you haven't been checked, do get that out of the way, just for peace of mind.

No, no diabetes. I do have medical issues, but none that make you thirsty.

Good to know I am not alone, I just hate always having to go to the bathroom- and it seems once I drink something it makes me hungrier- I thought the opposite was supposed to happen.

I read somewhere that too much water is bad. However I dont remember where, or if it was reliable information...

do you drink as much during the cold weather?

What is your sodium intake?I try to keep myself well hydrated throughout the day. As a consequence, i do not need the news reports to tell me when it is high tide. I am also aware that the more i drink, the thirstier i am. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHi

I mostly drink ice water, and maybe 1 diet soda per day. I have a glass of water first thing in the morning, a glass with every meal, and a bigger glass after exercise. I also make sure to have one glass a couple of hours before bed.

I drink quite a bit. I guess average breakdown is:

Morning coffee - around 300ml
Coffee on way to work (with a bit of da vinci syrup): 450ml
Tea/Water at the office: probably average 2-3L
More stuff to drink in the evening (water, some tea, sometimes a diet soda)- let's round that off to 1.5L

Grand total: around 5L (170oz)/day (sometimes more, sometimes less)

I keep my sodium under 1500 a day. Lately it has been much less.

I retain water like a crazy person- cant stand having a 3lb difference day to day.

IMO that's too low, but some people are sensitive to sodium.

Here's something to look at: Special Report: A pinch of doubt over salt | Reuters

Quote:
Recent scientific papers suggest the basis for a global crackdown on salt is not what you'd call rock solid. Two 2011 studies indicate that the evidence is inconclusive, or that reducing salt may even be harmful.

...

In one group of people -- those with pre-existing heart conditions -- reducing salt was actually associated with an increase in the likelihood of premature death.

Taylor said he did not receive payment from, or have links to, the salt industry. His study was funded by a grant from the UK government's National Institute for Health Research.

I guess looking at my ******, looks like I have 1300-2100/day.

Most of the time, it is between 1600-1750- funny, I thought it was lower. My cheese consumption is pretty high as I eat a slice before bed

Heart disease is a huge problem in my family, so I was told to keep it under 2000. Does your weight make a difference on the amount of sodium you should consume?

A nutritionist once told me that my 3L of water each day was way too much for my small frame. She said that my kidneys couldn't handle processing that much liquid and that I should cut back to no more than 6-8 cups of ALL liquids/day. So no more than 64 ounces of water, coffee, tea, broth, etc...

The numbers don't sound excessive to me -- but I'm a 191 lb male, not limiting my salt intake, and currently experiencing hot humid weather. I probably drink ten to twelve glasses of water a day, at least, but I don't keep track at all. (Heck, I start my day with two full glasses of water, as soon as I've stepped off the scale. Then I have another glass with breakfast, and then one with my vitamins. That's two pounds of water before I've even left the house.)

My only concern is:
Quote:
I am always in the bathroom
How often is "always"? Example: if you have to wake up in the middle of the night to pee, that's not good. On the other hand, going six or eight times during the course of a day doesn't seem like anything to worry about.

I guess on average, I go once an hour. I go to bed at 10, and get up at 5 bursting.
Yesterday I had
3 diet gingerale
2 diet dew
5 bottles water
20 ounce vitamin water
2 glasses ice tea

I think maybe I should try to cut back, my head feels funny sometimes- maybe too much water. I think 100oz should be enough- currently I am WAY over that.

Your liquid consumption (to me) doesn't appear to be excessive. I would lay off some of the soda, but that's just me. I drink a lot of coffee in the a.m. and then water the rest of the day, sometimes iced tea or ACV water.
I wake up at 5am, go to bed around 10-11pm, and pee about every hour(not when I'm sleeping, I don't wake up to pee often). This isn't new or anything and actually gets worse as I slide into ketosis. I've always peed a lot. I don't know why, but it's really annoying.

Many say to take your weight in pounds, divide in 1/2, and drink that number of oz of fluid.

You're right near your target weight-- so about 65 oz of fluid should do it, 100oz max.

And many people (women) get up 1x a night to pee-- that's pretty normal. You can stop drinking fluid around 8-9pm and see if that helps.

The rest seems normal, just cut back. You can wash out your electrolytes, and too much caffeine in general will sap calcium from your bones.
