Great healthy low carb staples

Going to the grocery tomorrow - will have to do what I can with what I have until then.

Tuna, eggs, nuts, veggies, fruit (yes fruit, I'm doing a modified version), cheese, meats...

What's your favorite staple you can't live with out
Snack or meal plan....

Need ideas for my grocery list!!! Thanks

Wholly Guacamole brand is often marked down at my local Kroger)

Rotisserie roasted whole chicken (not with brining containing sugar), mixed salad greens, oil-cured olives, almonds, cheese (including cheeses in individual servings, like Bonabel), plain Greek yogurt, cherry tomatoes, whatever looks good in the non-starchy vegetables, avocadoes, grain-fed lean ground beef, coconut butter, high quality olive oil, sour cream, eggs. (Those things are on my shopping list almost every week.)

Mayonnaise, berries, butter, Parmesan, heavy cream, fresh garlic and some kind of fresh fish for the freezer (my favourites are mackerel, plaice, whiting, sea bass, tuna, trout and salmon). Lemons and limes. Smoked salmon, ham slices. Tabasco or similar. Artichoke hearts in oil. Jars of chopped jalapenos. Olives. Prawns (shrimp) in brine, not frozen, cos the frozen ones don't seem to taste of anything. Squid mantles (yes, really). Duck. Cream cheese/Philadelphia. Fresh herbs.

Splenda or Stevia or sweetener of choice (I've given them all up - eek!)

These are not weekly buys, they're things I pick up when I see them, just in case anyone thought I ate ALL that every week

Do you like to bake? If so, look for some low carb flours like almond meal, coconut flour, flax meal, soy flour, soy protein, etc. There are a multitude of low carb flour alternatives and it opens up a whole world of possibilities. Breads, muffins, pancakes and pizza crusts will no longer be "off limits." Also, I really like carbquik, but you can't get it at any grocery store that I know of.

Whatever else you do, try to eat a good breakfast. Good quality proteins and plenty of it to keep you going until lunch. It's not uncommon for me to have 3 or 4 different brands/varieties of breakfast sausage in my fridge, along with 3 dozen eggs. And plenty of cheddar cheese and mozzarella. Couldn't do without those.

Hi, Aim. LC shopping is fun! I wish you a splendid time.

My "basic staples" list:

Good butter: Kerrygold or Organic Valley pastured are the best brands at the stores near me. The pastured Org. Valley has a green, foil wrapper. Both brands come in salted and unsalted.

Eggs
Heavy whipping cream (I make yoghurt, sour cream, mascarpone, etc.)

Beef bones (for broth and marrow fat)
Liver (either calf or chicken)
Veal brains
Chuck roast
Beef bacon

Some kind of vegetable. I like: raw turnips and celery, cooked parsnips and pumpkin, fresh mustard greens and herbs, chives, green onions....

White pepper
Nutmeg

Seltzer water (for making magnesium water, or using for a treat with lemon juice or lemon extract.)

If you have a generous budget, brie and camembert, the 60% fat content kind, are especially nice, as are steaks and wild Alaskan salmon....

Auntie Em, I made mascarpone cheese when I read the you made it at home. It turned out fabulous and I was able to make it with organic cream which was even better and at a fraction of the cost. Thank you. I look forward to making this little specialty again soon.

My staples are:
grass fed ground beef
ground pork
yogurt (lately I am in love with Greek style goat's milk yogurt)
organic eggs (I always have at least 12 on hand)
hwc
cream cheese
shirataki noodles and rice
glucomannan powder
cucumbers
frozen organic spinach
mayo
l/c ketchup
a big hunk of parmesan
bacon
almonds
garlic
onion
