Ready for tailgating season this time!

Last year when college football season started so did my slide down the slippery slope of no discipline! This year is going to be different for me. I'm just now trying to get back on track and here it comes again! Any suggestions for game time snacks that are healthy, light and still good?

Hey Leisha !

How about :

wings
fruit trays
veggie trays with ranch
hot dogs wrapped in bacon - dipped in mustard
jalapeno poppers
pickles
lunchmeat rolled around cheese

Hope that helps !

I'm in the same boat - and just a bit north of you! I want to have things that work for me but everyone can enjoy.

I'm testing out bacon wrapped poppers, and how portable they will be.

Smoked chicken with white barbecue sauce is good. Just eat on a plate instead of a bun.

Pimento cheese.

Just a few more weeks until kick-off! I can't wait!

Great ideas Laura! Thank you!!

Jmacb.....I love pimento cheese! I never thought of that as an option! Thank you. I don't eat chicken so I never think to make it for game time.

We are more at home watchers than real tailgaters but it's so much fun to get the special dishes out and ORANGE & BLUE plates and napkins out! There....I said it! Are your tailgating dishes Crimson and white or orange and blue JmacB? I can't wait either!!!!

There are so many recipes on the boards and food porn here. Also, if you're on Pinterest, look up "low carb" or "Atkins" and you'll find a ton of great recipes. Almost all the new recipes I've tried since I've started have come from there
I think wings are perfect, and you can make most dips - just eat them with pork rinds or a spoon

Shelly......Don't you just love our SEC football!!!

SallyJ.....I was just on pinterest looking at tailgating recipes! Great minds think alike! There are a lot of great ideas there and here too! I guess I was just being lazy when I asked for everybody's favorites instead of doing the research myself!

The guys do the meat, usually BBQ, the women do sides, my contribution would be poppers and a veggie tray and a fruit tray and everything is spread out under a tent on the Quad and served on a table spread with a white tablecloth and Crimson plates. I would fill up on poppers and veggies. Roll Tide!

Gator Girl here! ::chomp chomp::

Sadly, SEC is NOT big in NJ (i'm a gator thanks to my time in FL!), but NFL is! I usually do good with baked chicken wings, pepperoni & cheese platters, crudites, etc. That's the good thing about low-carb - it's football friendly!

Going to a football game a couple of hours before the game, setting up food and drink for your party in the parking lot, and partying before the game. Then you put it all away and go into the stadium to watch the game itself. It's called "tailgating" or a "tailgate party" because you often open up the back of your car/van/truck (the tailgate) to serve the food from. Others, as noted in this thread, actually bring tables and such.

Oh, a good spinach dip or spinach/artichoke dip. And make the cheese "crackers" to have for crunchies.

Tailgating is easy on Low Carb. Brats, Burgers,Ribs and Wings. The group I tailgate with is hosted by a local micro brewery and I love good beer. That has been the tricky part, avoiding the libations that are loaded with carbs and weaken your resolve. I bring my own and will have 2 or 3 Bud Select's and it works OK. Not the same but it will do.

Up first, UK. Time to get them to shut up about basketball for a bit.
