gluten free soy souce & other ?s
ok..so the gluten free soy sauce I bought label reads
Ingredients WATER, SOYBEANS, RICE, SALT I didnt think about it at the store, but the rice makes this not so good huh? Do any of yall use it? I'm dying for some good stir fry :l Also, what do yall use for cooking spray? all the kinds I've seen seem to have soy in them? I use very little of it & try not to worry about it too much, but if theres a better option out there, I'd like to use that. Thanks! |

I was looking at a gluten-free soy sauce online and saw the carb count (even with rice listed in the ingredients) was lower carb than regular soy sauce containing wheat. Normally I don't use a lot of soy sauce, so even with rice as an ingredients I myself wouldn't worry. I know some folks use liquid aminos in place of soy sauce. I almost bought some today, but the gluten free soy sauce was cheaper per an ounce. The brand I bought was San-J Organic Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce.

You can look for fermented soy--I think tamari sauce is always fermented, and Kikkoman is a fermented brand of regular soy--fermented is not supposed to be as bad for you as unfermented soy.
I just bought coconut aminos, but haven't had the chance to try them yet. As for cooking spray, I HATE it with a passion. It has ruined many pans because it leaves a sticky residue that never comes off. And it's full of who knows what. There is at the very least soy lecithin in there which is not good for you, even though you'll only ingest a small amount. For around $8 (with my 20% off coupon at BBB) I got an oil "mister". You fill it with your own oil (I use olive oil) pump it and spray. No more cans and propellant in the landfill, and it doesn't ruin pans. It lays a fine mist of oil on the surface of your pan. And, there's nothing wrong, from a low carb perspective, with taking a good old hunk of butter with your clean hand and smushing it around the pan like we used to do "in the olden days" (maybe you're not as "olden" as me). There's certainly no need to use spray to reduce fat and calories! ![]() |
