Resting heart rate with low carb/weight loss

I was wondering what folks resting heart rates were before going low carb and losing weight and did it improve with this WOE??? My resting heartrate is usually between 80 and 90.... but I am also considerably overweight and out of shape....

Before mine was significantly high. Over 100 easily... just walking around the house or something would spike it greatly.

Now that I've been running and losing weight... I can lay in bed and test it - it'll be in the 60's... 70's...

Average heart rates are between 60-90 beats per minute. Weight loss seldom changes your base rate. There are very thin people with low rates, and very thin people with high rates. The BEST thing that you can do for your heart is to instill some type of aerobic programming. Regular cardio or running can (but not always) lower your HR.

btw, my resting rate is 48, but I do a great deal of work with a rowing machine...........

What does change is your blood pressure. Reducing you body volume (reflected by reduction in weight ) generally lowers your blood pressure.

This is a good thing.

I have never heard of any specific correlation with how much you lose to how much your body lowers it blood pressure.

My resting heart rate went from 80+ to around 70, and now that I've been strength training consistently it's always around 60. My bp went from almost borderline high (135/70-80) to nice and low (usually 100-110/55-65).

As I recall, before starting LC my resting heart rate was in the low seventies. Now it's 58.

There's no way I can tell if this is due to the weight loss (50lbs) or the fact that I'm much fitter (3-7 hours of exercise per week).

Here's a handy link. An internet page that measure your heart rate.

Tap for Beats Per Minute BPM

Just tap the keyboard while taking your pulse. It updates per beat.

I had a BPM of 57 using this.

The Wikipedia page for resting heart rate: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_rate); shows that to be "excellent" and only one point away from the top category "athlete" (something else to aim for).

I'm aware that superfit atlethes in sports such as cycling would have a rate lower than wiki's table. I vaguely recall Lance Armstong being in the low low forties!

My pulse has gone down from the 90s to the 60s in one year and ~80 lb weight loss. BP also normalized.

I recall reading about Bjorn Borg, back in his heyday that he had a resting pulse of 39 which went up to 60 when he played tennis.

It took some time for my heart rate to lower but I was on b.p. meds for a time. I had some tachycardia and generally high heart rate always verging on 100. For about 1 year now, it is around 70 to 74 and no more meds with a b.p. of 105/70.

Low carb does reduce inflammation and can, most definitely have a positive effect.

Low BP is good, but a low heart rate is not necessarily a good thing. When my hypothyroidism was undiagnosed for a long time, my heart rate dipped to 55-57, and below 60 is not good.

I don't think that a low heart rate is necessarily desirable. A lower resting pulse rate is usually the sign of a fit body, but I'm not certain that heart rate correlates.
