Sonic Diet Coke Slush

145 Carbs per serving

Diet coke and ice? How can that be? I asked and apparently the ice has sugar in it.

What would be the point? Anything with "diet" in the name shouldn't have sugar! ARGH!

WOW ... and how many people order and consume that thinking it's low calorie? That should be against the law! Isn't that false advertisement???

That is just all kinds of wrong. The Sonic employees who approved it should be keelhauled!

This has to be some kind of mistake. Sonic doesn't even have a "Diet Coke Slush" on its menu. I happened to be peruseing the Taco Bell nutrition info today and a large regular sugar soda has 140-150 carbs. That must be the carb count for a large Coke.

I agree, there is no such thing as a diet coke slush. And their regular ice, is just ice, not sugar in it.

I have a feeling that's not correct. Daily Burn Tracker allows users to enter the nutritional information, and it may be the user who did so did it incorrectly. On Sonic's own nutritional information website, the sugar-full strawberry and pinapple slushies do have 146 and 196 carbs depending on size (I remember back to days when I would have allowed a kid to get something like that because "it must be healthy, it has fruit"

On the other hand . . .

I keep seeing things that claim to be "sugar-free" but one of the first three ingredients is corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup. I guess now that the USDA has prohibited the corn people from claiming HFCS is "corn sugar" (which was really a ploy to make people think it was as "benign" as sugar ), now they can use this to claim things are "sugar free"--after all, the government said it wasn't sugar!

Sonics basic slush mixture is a sugary ice mix. You an add whatever concentrated flavoring you want to it.... they dont advertise diet coke flavor added to it at all and its not on the menu, but I suppose its possible to create it. It definitely would not be low carb through!

When I read the title I got excited for a minute there that they really had a no calorie diet coke slush!

THIS.

Diet Limeade is pretty tasty though. It's not a slush, but it's still refreshing. I'm pretty sure it's just Sprite Zero with sugar-free lime flavor. Plus, limes.

Yep I used to work at Sonic. The slush is definitely not just ice. Even without any flavoring it is very sweet.

I ended up just ordering a plain large diet coke. Still has the crushed ice minus the sugar.

I have a friend that worked at Sonic for years. That count isabout right. She said they make the SLUSH MIX with 20 pounds sugar, 1` gallon corn syrup and 15 gallons HOT water. It is mixed up and poured in the slush machine.ALL sonic slushes are made with THIS same mix.IF you order a DIET slush you will be getting the diet coke mixed with the sugar filled slush. They DO NOT have sugar free slush mix. SORRY.

Yikes! I wonder how many people thought they WERE getting a diet slush??? Can you imagine if an insulin dependent diabetic did this????

Diet Cherry Limeade. Are they the same way I wonder? They said they have absolutely no sugar in them!! Is that true as well? But they have 20 calories in them. I think that must be from the limeades and cherries. I guess.

Wow, good to know! I don't visit Sonic but maybe once every couple of years (and I have one on both sides of town that are pretty close to me). I would have never thought about buying a diet slush and sure won't now!

Ive been getting the diet limeades w/extra lime, however, the other day I got one and saw them make it and she squirted the lime syrup in my cup from the regular syrup station so I'm weary now, and have been ordering them with extra real lime juice. It doesn't taste as good, but I thought about getting some lime DaVincis and making my own.

My DH likes the diet cherry limeade, but I'm a Rt 44 Diet Dr. Pepper gal. I love, love, love their ice. Why? It is just frozen water, it must be the shape. I also love how the styrofoam cup keeps the drink cold for hours- no watery soda for me.

We don't have one very close to us, but it is in the town where we go to do our "big shop" and we try to get there during happy hour (drinks half price) when we go.

I used to work at sonic and theres no such thing as "diet slushes" as others above me said. Its simply a base of frozen water and sugar, and they add a splash of diet coke. Also, those who go there to get "Diet" strawberry limeades, or anything with added strawberry, be well aware that there are LARGE amounts of sugar in the strawberries. It is a base of frozen strawberries, sugar, and syrup. If you were to get a large diet strawberry limeade they add 3 oz of the strawberries, which comes out to about 26 carbs! The only add in thats truly diet there are the diet cherry/peach and raspberry syrups! If there is someone who is really technical about their food consumption, there are small amounts of sugar and carbs in the cherries that they put in the diet cherry limeades!

As above! I was gonna say that their strawberry syrup with berries to make a strawberry limonade is going to be realy sugary even if you are using diet sprite for the rest of it.

I also like their diet peach flavored unsweetened iced tea (I add my own sweetner). And the diet dr pepper is delish of course!

I am guessing they can say it is a diet coke slush because they are using diet coke instead of real coke so there is some form of cutting down on sugar intake.. They just need to make sure they tell people that even though it says diet coke it still has some sugar content.. Much like when ice cream says "no added sugar" Just because it says that doesn't mean its low carb. I wish they would be more clear though because I am sure that drink has ruined many a diet.. or created insulin spikes.

OMG! Not that I drink the slushes but I do miss them. Gosh I used to adore their Grape Slush - when my MIL was in the hospital I lived on them - and I think my assprin bottle grew 10 sizes that summer!

So is the Diet Limeade safe? Not the cherry one, just the original. I get mine made with seltzer water cuz the diet sprite version is too sweet...??? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Yes the regular diet limeade is safe. It's just a mixture of diet sprite and fresh lime. The diet cherry limeades are relatively safe with the exception of the fresh cherry they throw in adds 2 carbs. Its the diet strawberry limeades that definitely are NOT safe for low carbers! Also if people are ordering "diet" slushes then the employees at the drive ins should be letting customers know. What happens if a diabetic came by and ordered a "diet" coke slush and thought it was safe? Cant believe some drive ins dont tell their customers this!!!

The sonics here put a lime syrup in ours too, don't know if it's diet so I'm nervous about getting them now.

Yeah I dont blame you! Sonic has a lime concentrate syrup that is loaded with sugar they use to make ice cream chillers with, but idk why they would add it to limeades.. I guess the safest bet is just not to drink them period!
