Just like magic!!
I heard back from the Rhuematologist today and my inflammation markers are down by 50%!! I also found out that my kidney function is normal as well as my protein levels!! I love hearing good news from the doctors!!

Insulin causes inflammation, so it would make sense that you would have a change after going on low carb. Congratulations!

Thanks so much!
I've been pretty lucky with most all of my doctors - they have all supported my choice (even if not 100% on the band wagon). The only "professional" who didn't was my nutritionist - but I told her I was going to try it anyway. I haven't beeb back to see her as I don't have any need of her services … but part of me would like to just for the "told you so" aspect - and perhaps to open her eyes! My Endo was supportive but hesitant - she only has two patients (now 3!!) who have actually stuck to low-carb long enough to make progress. Her reservations about low-carb stemmed from the thought that low-carb was not "sustainable" for most people - not that she thought it was dangerous (although she did make some noise about not enough long term studies). However, she has kept herself in the loop and has read many of the same books that I have. She's even been to a conference where Dr. Bernstein was speaking. The bottom line for me is quite simple - before getting on Atkins I was petrified of my health issues and potential health problems that would follow. I literally had nightmares of having body parts chopped off and being in a wheelchair for the rest of my life! Now? Now I have hope and a feeling that the future will not be as bleak. Now I have hope that I'll be able to grow old with some measure of ease - that I won't be so sick that I can't take care of myself. Can I reverse all my issues? No, I don't think so … but I'll certainly be trying and hoping to reverse or minimize all I can!! And yes, the weight loss is a wonderful bonus!

Congrats on your progress. It's great how many medical professionals are accepting of low carb. I'm fortunate to have a primary doctor and on/gyne that both advocate a low carb diet. It makes a huge difference when they support rather hold you back.
I read more about your journey elsewhere on low carb friends site. I wish you continued success. It's fabulous that you are really seeing positive results! ![]() |
