I'm waking up dizzy--what's going on?

Been low-carbing for 2 weeks now. Several times, especially this morning, I woke up extremely light-headed and dizzy. I didn't feel safe enough to shave my legs in the shower!

What is causing this? Too little water? Too little sodium? Something else?

Grateful for any insights. Thanks

I would guess that you are experiencing some 'adjustment' issues. What does your menu look like?

Could be a number of things: Low blood pressure, vertigo, an ear infection, etc.

You mention WAKING UP this way... Tell me, do you feel dizzy when laying down? If you lay down in bed, on your back, with your chin up as if you were trying to see the headboard, and then TURN your head (ie: twist your neck), does this make it worse? (Yes, I'm checking for classic vertigo symptoms, here. But the same symptoms could indicate an ear infection.)

I'd try eating some pickles and drinking lots of water, and see if it clears up. If not, might be time to visit the doc and find out what's going on.

Could be simply your body hasn't adjusted yet and your blood sugar is a bit low, are you eating anything after dinner time? If not your liver will have used most of its stores by morning leaving your blood sugar low.

Maybe snag a cheap Relion blood sugar meter from walmart and see where you are at in the morning.

when I passed out twice, the heart doc said it was from a slight problem with dehydration. So I have a water jar on my bedtable and drink some water if I have the sightest problem. takes about 5 minutes to recover. Most times I just get a drink of water during one of my middle of the night bathroom visits. Haven't had a problem in 2 years.

I think that may have been the problem. I hadn't drank as much water the day before.
Also, last night before I went to bed I made sure to have a few pork rinds, just so I would have something in my stomach.
This morning I was pretty good, just a slight "whirl". After I had breakfast I was fine.
Thanks to all of you for the advice.
p.s. I'm switching to Atkins. The 40 grams of carbs Protein Power allowed doesn't seem to be working.

LBP!!!!

The vast majority of people experience a dip in their BP, especially when resting, or asleep. Try taking your BP couple times per day, perhaps in the am and then again mid afternoon. If its too low on either occasion, then you need to up your salt intake a tad...
