The Substitute Theory
![]() I've had a fab low carb week. I have been sulking for years cos i gave up on the foods i love but you know i added back the things i used to enjoy to make this a lifestyle change. I love gravies, so ive substituted with beef stock (yummy) i pour that over my veggies and it tastes divine. I love my mash but now i have mashed cauliflower (tastes like the real deal) so this week ive felt an amazing difference in my mood and in my palate i no longer feel like im forcing myself to eat i feel like im cheating cos my food is no longer tasteless its so flavoured and just the way i like it, also love mac and cheese so i enjoy broccolli and cheese even more, yummy. Even better, i lost 5lbs in 5 days, havent lost a 1lb in a year. I have been stalling so much so i am challenging myself in the next 6 months to enjoy and make the most of this woe. ![]() Any other substitute ideas?

Good for you!! Keep up the good work.
You might want to check out the recipe thread on this site. Also, check out Linda Sue's recipes. You can do LC pizza, lasagna, all kinds of good things. |

Awesome! I have found that I can find good substitutes for nearly every high carb food I used to enjoy. I second Linda Sue's site and the recipe section of this site. I get almost every one of my recipes from these places.

Try Alfredo or other cream sauces instead of gravy, too!
(Alfredo is easy. Take about a cup of cream, about a stick of butter, a bunch of shredded mozerealla and fresh parmasean. (Maybe 1/4 cup each, if you want to measure). Heat it all together on low until everything is nice and melty. Feel free to add various things to flavor it, too. Goes good on veggie mashers, over chicken, on most seafood, over most green veggies... And leftovers are great in scrambled eggs!) I make low carb crackers, some of which taste like commercial brands, but are actually HEALTHY. There's so many LC things you can substitute for the things we used to eat that made us fat. |

Awesome! Its important to make it work for you. I'm surprised sometimes at how much better lowcarb food can taste than starchy food.

I love looking at the low carb recipes on pinterest or low carb blogs to get ideas for what to make next. There is a really good looking mac and cheese recipe on peace, love and low carb (a blog, just google it) that uses cauliflower. I want to make that soon. mmmmm!!

I'm a girl who loves Ritz crackers and Cheezitz. When I have a pang for the Cheezitz, I fry some small bits of extra sharp cheddar cheese in a non-stick pan. When it starts to bubble and flatten out, I put the pieces on a towel and let them cool. Then I have some lovely crunchy cheese bits.
