Not losing in Induction -Check my menu?
Hi ,
I have been on induction for 3 weeks now and have not been losing anything. No inches and the scale isn't moving either. Breakfast - 2 eggs scrambled with 1 ounce cheddar and 1/2 avacado Snack : string cheese 1 ounce lunch - 4 ounes roast beef i make at home and 2 cups of brocoli snack : string cheese 1 ounce dinner - 4 ounes roast beef i make at home and 2 cups of brocoli What am I doing wrong? I am having over 80 ounces of water a day and take my fish oil and vitamins! |

Looks like you might be doing a more modern version of Atkins Induction. I had no luck whatsoever with any of the newer versions of Atkins...my body just didn't respond to the higher carb values allowed on the modern version. I just couldn't get into fat-burning mode at all with the higher levels of carbs allowed.
So you might try something more like the original Atkins induction...that's just 2 cups of loosely packed salad greens a day & meat/fat/eggs. No more than a couple of ounces of hard cheese a day. You'd be keeping carbs under 20 TOTAL carbs a day (not net) So basically, eat a lot more meat/fat and less carbs. Try that for a couple of weeks and see if you start getting some results...then can gradually add more of the low-carb friendly veggies like broccoli.

Your menu looks fairly okay to me. Atkins induction wouldn't have you eating that much broccoli, but I'd be surprised if eating too much broccoli was keeping you from losing.
How much weight do you have to lose? If it's not much, sometimes it takes longer to come off. And what were you eating before you started induction? The loss in the beginning is mostly water, but if you were already fairly LC, you might not have had much water to lose. I'd say keep going, and maybe try swapping out your 4 daily cups of broccoli for 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of broccoli (Atkins induction).

2 Cups of chopped broccoli would have about 12 carbs total - with about 4.5 grams of fiber … so net would be 7.5 carbs … twice a day that's 15 carbs right there. Half an avocado has about 4 carbs net. Remember too that eggs & cheese have carbs.
However, what I don't see in your menu is fat (outside of the avocado) … you may find that you'll be stuck if you don't increase the fat. |

How much do you have to lose?
I would try cutting down on the broccoli, 1 cup per meal. It may just be too much for you to get into ketosis. Slather your broccoli in butter if you arent already! I dont see any fats on your menu. |

Like everyone else is noting, looks like not enough fat. And to me, it looks like not enough calories! Your body will cling like grim death to any calories coming in if it feels limited.

I am so sorry you are having a hard time right now.
Nice menu. Do you add any butter to your eggs? That may help. Also 4 cups of broccoli would stall me. I always try to incorporate broccoli in my diet because i believe it to be on of the healthiest vegetables but I only have 1/2 of a cup a day at the most and I add butter to them. Hope this helps. Hang in there it may just be a matter of time. |

Thanks ya'll for your replies. I do add 1 tbsp of olive oil to all my meals. the pot roast i make has a lot of fat from the meat. I also get fat from cheese. How many tbsp of fat do you guys roughly have a day from butter and oil? I am trying to lose 24 pounds. I am 5'1 and 144 pounds right now. I exercise 4 times a week at the gym. My eating habbits before induction was 1200 calories a day mostly from veggies, meet and whole grains.
I will take everyone's advice of upping my fat and having salad for one meal instead of broccoli. I will reduce my cheese intake to 1 ounce a day. If you have any other advice that can help me let me know. THANKS SO MUCH!! |

You are likely very carb sensitive. Try cutting back on your veg and adding in good fats. Exersice is great for general health but it is not very useful for weight loss. If you want to keep it up, just remember that it can take some time for the scale to 'catch up'.

I would suggest adding 1-2tbsp of coconut oil in per day and maybe not quite as much olive oil. CO seems to help my weightloss.

if you are small, the weight comes off more slowly.
are you hungry? are you exercising? I would ditch the cooked brocc for a few days; eat a salad for at least one of your meals (include some raw brocc if you want); and reduce your cheese. whenever I replace cheese with HB eggs as snacks, I lose. Odd, but true! Right now, I'm not losing but I'm also eating cheese and bars. When I get motivated to lose again, I will drop those 2 snack foods. |

i am never hungry.I pretty much force myself to eat my meals. My appetite is really decreased. According to ketostix I have been in ketosis for almost 3 weeks now. I even went through the induction flu. I guess its because I have little to loose and its taking its sweet time.
I am going to keep up ! make some changes to my food. 2 cups salad, half an avacado and 1 cup of brocoli is less than 15 net carbs. Some say too little carbs stall your weightloss but the old atkins only allowed like 5 net carbs a day right? |

there are a few different versions of Atkins. one from 1972, one from 1992 (republished in 2002) and one written some time after his death in 2003.
of the two "original" books written by Dr A himself... not sure about Atkins '72 but I think he called for just 1 cup salad a day. DANDR allows under 20g per day as long as you limit cheese to 4 oz and keep artificial sweeteners to 3 servings/packets per day. anyway, the changes you've made look good. if you still aren't having any luck after another couple of weeks, I would drop the avocado -- that's one of the things Dr A says may be permissible in induction as long as weight loss is progressing.

Your diet wasn't very high carb or high calorie before, so you won't get that water weight whoosh that most of us get when we go low carb.
It is harder to lose when you are not that much overweight. I am around the same height and weight as you are now, but I started out a lot heavier. I lost steadily for a long time, but as soon as I got down to the 142-145 range, my weight totally stalled out. I have been bouncing around this weight for several months. So I understand how frustrating it is.
