Anyone experience mild anxiety/irritability/depression during adjustment?

I've done low carb before and this past year have been playing around with paleo and intermittent fasting. This past 2 weeks i have been focusing on getting back on track and eating low carb trying to become keto adapted once again. However this time around I am experiencing an increase in all out crabby "leave me alone" attitude and I'm having a hard time remembering if this happened to me in the past. Anyone else experience this after 2 weeks in and had it go away? I'm not interested in being fat and happy. In fact, I find that very contradicting lol.

I have, and I am also experiencing it all over again this week, so I'm right there with you! It probably has to do with carb withdrawal/serotonin levels. Or hormones. Who knows? At least I have managed to survive 4 days of induction levels of carbs and not murdered anyone.

Heck yes! It will pass, just keep on plugging along.

I sleep a lot on those days.

Google "Bulletproof Executive women and intermittent fasting"

A quote from this short article,

Many women find that with intermittent fasting comes sleeplessness, anxiety, and irregular periods, among a myriad of other symptoms hormone dysregulations.

It doesn't discourage you from doing it, just provides additional info that might be helpful to you.

I am noticing the irritability (just thought it was from feelings of desperation and hating Low carb living) and some evenings even feeling depressed. Also have to add...the libido is about shot! All 3 things causing some stress and tension in our home! Eeek!

Most likely hormonal. You might google the article I mentioned above as well! It could shed some insight for you. Good luck.

P.S. Are you in E or W PA??

Oh my goodness, this information is so fascinating and inspiring! Thank you for posting the link. I think I may be switching over to his method.

You're welcome. I've had great success with the butter coffee. On a normal work day, I drink that in the AM, then have an iced coffee (no butter, just HWC) at around noon, and eat my first meal after 2pm. When I did it seriously, I dropped 7 lbs. almost immediately.

When dh was first diagnosed with diabetes (T2) his doc put him on an antidepressant along with some meds to help lower his blood sugar because he knew it would mess with the serotonin levels when the blood sugar takes a dive... and dh already had some issues that called for an antidepressant.

Even if you aren't diabetic your body isn't getting the high from sugar any more and it will take some time to adjust to that so maybe that's what is going on. Hope it passes quickly!

I recommitted on May 1, and have gone from 186 to 170, so 16 pounds in 8 weeks for an average loss of 2 per week. Of course, there was the initial faster loss, then settling into something a little slower, like 1.5 per week.

I notice that my mood and salt intake are related - I've never really worried about my salt intake, because I love it and my BP has always been low. However, this time around I am actually quite deliberate about eating even MORE salt, and oddly, I feel better. It's weird. And again oddly, there have been a couple of posts on LCF recently about the necessity of salt to LC eating.

Usually my nastiness lasts only until I hit ketosis, so 3 days. I also have not had TOM yet since I started again, but I couldn't say whether LC is the cause, or perhaps menopause just happened to strike simultaneously! Only time will tell...

When I started LC, I had horrible depression for about three weeks. But note, I'd had chronic depression for over ten years, so it was just worse than normal.

About three months later, my depression was cured. Completely. Just from eating low carb. It has been three years and I haven't had any more symptoms. "Maybe you just looked better and felt more confident" I've had people tell me. No, I was still wearing plus sizes. It was entirely due to curing the inflammation that I hadn't even known I'd had.

I've heard that weight loss releases pent up estrogen and toxins from your fat, so that undoubtedly has something to do with those first days.
