To Eat or Not To Eat
My family is kind of stressed out right now bc my Dad has been at the hospital and now he's coming home, but we're getting Chinese food. Obviously this isn't on my diet, and I'm torn. On one hand, I'd really like to have some. OTOH, I feel really great about having stayed with my weight loss and I REALLY want reach my goal of a size 14 by the end of the summer. I can't decide whether to say, "Oh, Heck, it's just this night," or make myself a salad instead. Help.

See if you can get something in a light sauce (rather than a sweet brown sauce) and enjoy it without rice. I like scallops in light sauce, myself. Or those teriyaki beef on a stick appetizers.

EEEKKKKKK!!!!! Don't fall into the "just this one time" trap!!!!! That is a trick! LOL. Even though I love chinese food (but am scared to even TRY eating it now because most of the food has MANY different ingredients and it would be difficult to gauge the carbs), I vote you SKIP it, find something OP to eat and have NO REGRETS tomorrow!!!!
Keep your goal in mind at all times and ask yourself what you want more- XYZ or to be that size 14 by the end of summer??? |

Do you know if egg drop soup is LC and if they serve it? I've never looked up the ingredients but just a thought!

i eat chinese all the time-ATKINS-ized.
Whatever dishes u get ( order separately for yourself, and let the others order for themselves), tell them no cornstarch, no flour, no sugar. get the ribs w/o bbq sauce. spice it up with chinese mustard. a little goes a long way. or u could get the aforementioned (not the ribs)steamed. i eat chinese at least twice a week. I'd get Chinese, but something less carby than the usual. When I get Chinese , my favorite thing to get is shrimp and broccolli in white sauce - tell them no sugar, no cornstarch. Extra brocolli to replace the rice.
One restaurant I went to had a pork chop noodle soup that was great. The pork chop is usually lightly dusted with flour before frying. I asked them to skip the flour and just fry the pork chop and asked for brocolli in the soup instead of noodles. ETA I've also had salt and pepper shrimp without breading Last edited by tulipsandroses; 06-13-2012 at 04:53 PM.. |

Chinese menus are usually so huge there's bound to be something good to eat. It may not fit within a strict carbohydrate number, but sharing a family meal may be more important.
IIRC, the lowest-sugar dishes tend to be Mu shu (minus the bread), beef broccoli, etc. I've eaten lots of szechuan sole and holy basil soup with pork from my local place and honestly I have no idea of the carbohydrate total but it hasn't slowed me down. |

I get lettuce wraps with grilled chicken and veggies. That way, I can enjoy Chinese with my friends! Sipping on the tea (if you go to the restaurant) is very relaxing to me.

I would get something like steamed veggies or meat with light sauces! You can always ask about the ingredients! Making something on plan however would probably be much easier and a lot less up in the air!

Real Chinese food can be very low carb. Ask them to make your veggies and protein with NO corn starch or sugar, and you should be fine. I was just in Beijing for 8 days and lost a few pounds without even trying.

I hope you found something that worked! My friends have taken me to a Chinese place a few times and man, seeing all the food I gave up hurts! LOL Luckily they served plain baked wings and even breadless fried wings (they're really crispy) so I had something I could eat. Sometimes I get a little pepper steak or beef broccoli but not much and try to leave off as much sauce as I can. No rice of course.
