Which alcohol affects you the least? Wheat free?

I noticed that I get poofy and hold onto water way too much with beer (I luv you beer, sniffle). I was reading up on liquors with no wheat and rum comes up. Love rum, but don't drink it often. I think when I go to that Wedding in July, I will drink rum and diet cokes instead of beer.

Does anyone notice less puffy and water weight with a wheat-free liquor? I gained 7 lbs of water last time I drank 5 beers in a weekend. Ouchies.

I usually drink wine, but I do have a low carb beer frequently and don't notice any ill effects...

I think wine is supposed to be the best. When I used to drink, I'd have gin and slimline tonic, but I don't drink any more. I also don't weigh myself frequently so I don't know what effect it had the next day. Beer is probably the worst offender though!! I'd go for either wine or spirits with a sugar free mixer. Have fun!

Is it the wheat, or is it the actual carbs that are giving you the bloat? We have never had any problem with retaining water when drinking hard liquor...there are no carbs there. We have often enjoyed tequila, vodka, whiskey and rum. Just make sure you're drinking the actual hard liquor and not flavored alcohol (like some brands of coconut rum have as much as 11 carbs per ounce!) or sugary liqueurs (obviously high carb, with the sugar!). We use Crystal lite flavored water to make mocktails (sugar free lemonade w/tequila makes a very-margarita-like mocktail.)

Wine is not the best alcohol-beverage choice: all varieties of wine have carbs (some quite high per serving) Beer also has carbs, again some are quite high. But bottom line: all beer and all wine have carbs. So we don't drink either of those.

Now drinking any kind of alcohol will slow weight loss, since your body will use the alcohol for energy and not burn fat for awhile.

I have quit a few Gin and Diet Tonics. Haven't seen any affect on my weight loss. When I go beer, I find that I drink more carbs and calories, than gin. I'll just have to suffer with my gin...sad day

I don't drink atm because I want to be in ketosis all the time, and alcohol kicks me out and stalls my weight loss.

but when I do, I have vodka and soda with lime. no carbs except for the lime, and it tastes fresh. sometimes I have rum and diet coke instead since that is an easy drink to order at a bar. but rum isn't my favourite. if I'm at home, I sometimes have gin with diet tonic. the only downside to the latter two is the aspartame.

I noticed there is a new beer -- Miller 67 -- that only has 2g carbs but beer makes me bloated and tired, so I don`t even bother with it. same with wine.

I do the best with red wine. I find the low carb beers bloating and I tend to drink mixed drinks too fast (especially vodka and soda, tastes like water to me!) Red wine I can slowly sip for hours ( I make it last) and drink up to 2 glasses with no ill effects.

I eat more no matter what alcohol I drink. Booo! Miller 64 and Bud 55 are so tasteless. I may as well drink a large Diet Soda. Very frustrating!

i do not drink at all to stay in ketosis.

my focus was ALWAYS on food, not alcohol. I do allow myself a drink or two at TG and Christmas. I would guess that most of us would not drink the quantity of hard liquor that there is in 1 beer or ale. But for those of us to whom beer is important, if not sacred, i would make them FEW and FAR BETWEEN, and enjoy ONE good real beer or ale, and not the tasteless ones.

I handle red wine and bitter cocktails well (martini, manhattan). The maltose in beer gives me heartburn, and sweet juice cocktails are obviously no good.

My main staple is 2 oz. vodka with a half-bottle (8 oz.) of Sparkling Ice soda--all the flavors are excellent.

I am sure Vodka drinks would be best for me, because all it takes is one and I am done. However, I do not like hard alcohol, I drink dry wines and alot of it. I do puff up, I get a wine belly and puffy pedals too. It goes away after a few days of teetotaling and squeaky clean LC eating.

My ankles sometimes swell a bit with wine, but it's still my go-to drink. Others are vodka and soda w/lime, bourbon and water, and rum and diet Coke.

I can have several bourbon and club sodas without going out of ketosis or swelling up at all. I just take care to drink an extra amount of water throughout and the next day to avoid the dreaded dehydration and water retention.

Yeah, the dehydration can be bad. After New Years I ended up with wracking leg cramps and heart palpitations, and after going to the doc found out I was dehydrated. Probably from all my celebrating...

So now when I drink I make SURE to have extra fluid. I don't drink a lot of water/fluid during the day normally, except for my morning coffee, so this is a change for me. But avoiding those cramps are SO worth it. *shudder*

I agree with the vodka and soda water, with a little lime. That's my new go to drink. It doesn't seem to stall me at all, in fact I have noticed that a day or two after a heavy night out I lose a few extra lbs. For example I am down 2.5 lbs today after a night out last night, we'll see if that holds over the next couple days.

I religiously steer clear of the beer and wine. And I literally L-O-V-E wine. I've decided to limit my drinking to one night per week MAX - sometimes none at all - and I always stick to vodka and diet something. I also drink a glass of water in between each cocktail. I did have a little drawback with not losing anything after my second week of induction, so I'm off the alcohol until I've had steady weight losses for at least 3 weeks.

We're enjoying vodka tonics w/lime at the end of these early hot days. We're still getting the early lawn work and early gardening caught up with, and these vodkas go down so refreshingly at the end of the afternoon. No water retention issues at all with this drink for me. If I have beer or wine, it's usually just a glass though, so don't know much about drinking more heavily on those alcohols.

alcohol just puts the weight on me. Too bad 'cause I can handle the stuff. And, for some reason champagne just adds to my weight. I have done test around it and sure enough I gain weight with the stuff and but love the taste of it. Just sipping on it. So I had to stop drinking it. White wine or something like vodka is not bad. But be careful for some of us, like me, it bloat me up, hence the name "theBelly". I am not kidding you - it is the first to come and the first to go.

I dearly love good craft beer, but obviously not the best choice. It's tough though because I live in Cincinnati and it's become a craft beer town. Many small pub type places we go to have at least 8 rotating taps and I want to try them all

I've been sticking with wine and the very occasional craft beer if my carbs are really low for the day. I try to limit it to 2 drinks one night over the weekend. I've been thinking about trying the vodka soda w/lime -- vodka is the only liquor I like. Maybe I'll give that a try this weekend!
